"Mom! Mom!"

"Yes?"

"If— If Papa dies, can someone like me turn back time for him?"

Mom looked down at me from her gardening tools. The beautiful summer day was perfect because of the slight breeze that kept us cool. Mom's sunhat shaded her eyes from the sun, which was usually out and about in Alaska. She smiled and put her hand on my head, patting me gently.

"Unfortunately no, dear. But your papa will make it. He's very strong!"

It seemed as if she wanted to convince herself about that as well.

"How come?" I questioned, referring to the 'no'.

"Well, the time attribute can speed up time and slow it down. But reversing time or pausing all of time completely breaks the time-space continuum. If you had tried to turn back time, you would instead stop all of life from moving. Even yourself."

"And then I wouldn't be able to control time then, right?"

"Yes. And if you tried to revive someone using time, it's practically impossible. The only logical thing would be to focus the attribute on the dead person and only reverse what has happened to them, though no one has tried yet. No one is strong enough for that," Mom explained. She smiled and said, "But don't worry, little love. You won't need to revive your papa. He's going to live."

~~~
"He's not going to be able to live much longer," the doctor said.
My 10-year old self froze. Papa wasn't going to come back. He was going to leave this world in a matter of minutes. I looked up at Mom, who was staring at the doctor. She had been completely frozen, her eyes wide. I wanted to say everything was going to be alright but it would've been a lie. Her husband was going to die. She suddenly collapsed onto her knees and screams of agony escaped. I never saw her so broken. She began stammering about broken promises that Papa didn't keep.
"You're supposed to see him get married..!" She screamed to no one in particular, her collapsed figure trembling on the floor. "You're supposed to help me build the dream house we wanted by the lake for his future family..!"
My hands clenched into fists, and I looked up at the doctor. For a young lad, he seemed frightened. "Leave." As soon as the word left my mouth, he had disappeared.
I knelt down onto the floor, and slowly, I wrapped my arms around Mom. She looked up, and I saw the tears in her eyes. Every single feeling in my heart reached out to wipe the tears away, and she hugged me back, wailing and screaming. I didn't say anything as her screams made my heart break into a million little pieces.
Papa.
Don't leave us.
Mom will miss you.
"If only it were that easy," I mumbled silently.
~~~

"Good morning, Mom!" I exclaimed when I heard her feet walking down the steps of the house.

As of being 14 years old, a lot had happened. Mom got very ill but had recovered quickly, and I made a lot of food and dishes for her during that time. I also learned to cook just as well as her, which was a blessing. She worked late most nights to prepare for all around the world business so I didn't see her until the day after.

Mom smiled and sat down at the dining table. "How was school yesterday, sweetie?"

"It was okay," I replied, letting the pancakes slide into a plate. Then I casually added, "Though I wish one of my peers would stop trying to kill herself."

"Ah, I saw that in the newspaper yesterday," Mom responded. "You said her name was Cheryl, right?"

I smile slightly at the mention of her name. "Yeah," I said, slightly dazed. Mom noticed and raised her eyebrow at me, though I ignored it. "I understand she's alone, but maybe if she opened up to people, she would have a reason to live."

"Hah!" Mom snickered. "You might as well be her reason to live!" I snapped up and saw Mom smirking at me. "Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about! I noticed the way you answered when I said her name."

"M-MOM!" I exclaimed, my cheeks red. I put the plate of pancakes on the table, and she stabbed a piece with a fork. "That's not happening!"

Mom rolled her eyes and smiled. "Okay, Tristan, sure." I relaxed but then she added slyly, "You act as if I said you love her."

"M-Mom!"

All these memories were floating through my head as my green eyes rested on the dead female body on the floor. Her black side bangs were covering her eyes, or at least where they should've been. Two spherical shapes rested a few feet away, blood covered on them. Blood was streamed down her face, and her head had been cracked open. A pool of blood had surrounded her, and her body had become even more pale than it originally was.

Cheryl.

I felt my legs shaking, and I fell to my knees. I couldn't say anything, though my mouth was partly open. I was too late. I didn't get here in time. My hands clenched into fists, and I closed my eyes tightly, trying not to burst into tears. Fuck... FUCK! And Leo said he LOVED her?! I swept through the pool of blood, ignoring the stains on my jeans, and picked Cheryl up, as if it would make my heart lighter. The warmth had been sucked out of her, and I grabbed her cold hand in mine. Fucking dammit..

"Why'd you leave me.. like he did?" I murmured. Tears were falling from my eyes as I covered her face with her hair, trying to hide the blood on her eyes. "Why god dammit..."

My jaw clenched tightly as I heard my tears fall into the puddle of Cheryl's blood. The sound of the droplets seemed to snap me awake all of a sudden, and I jolted. Gently, I let go of Cheryl's body and let her lay in the blood. Putting my hand over her eyes, I mustered up all I could into what I said.

"Good night, Cheryl Faun," I said, hearing the words the man in the white suit had said when I was at my father's funeral. The words seemed empty and echoing. "May your beautiful spirit rise from your body and dance within the millennium of stars."

I took the bandana off of her thigh and wrapped it around her eyes, swallowing back my tears. I'll see you on the other side. I promise.

I breathed in deeply and put my hands out, letting them hover over Cheryl. Mom said I shouldn't turn back time because it's impossible. But she never said I couldn't. No one has tried yet. So I will just have to be the first. My hands glowed green, and I winced at the pain pulsing in my fingers. I don't care if I die because of this. One way or another, I will be with Cheryl. As of now, with Mom probably home and freaking out about what to do, it's for the best. I closed my eyes and silently prayed.

Dear Papa,

I wish a great day to you. I pray that you will suffice some mercy for me as I try to revive the dead girl I love.

Your son,
Tristan Tanner.
