I kept an eye on the timer, and each ticking second was at least a little bit of Cheryl's life going down the drain. I looked at Leo, but he had disappeared. Behind, a voice told me. I immediately whipped around, and my arm pushed Leo's body into the wall to the right. He caught himself and landed on his feet.
"Great senses," Leo commented.
"I already told you. I didn't come here for small talk."
Leo grabbed a knife from the floor next to him and charged right at me. I ducked as the knife swiped across the air, missing me. I pulled on his leg, making him fall, and moved back before he could regain his posture. Anything. C'mon, isn't there anything I could use around here? My eyes glazed over the walls until I had looked up. A canopy of weapons. Huh. Sounds like something an insane psycho would do. How befitting. I immediately went for a steel pillar, climbing up its sides. Leo had managed to stand up within those five seconds of adrenaline.
He grabbed his knife and threw it at my direction. I grabbed the handle, barely missing the blade, and breathed in relief when it wasn't even close to my face. It was more to my ear, most likely because Leo has swung it at me while swaying. I chucked it back at him, letting it glow a healthy green color. The knife seemed like a flash as it sped towards Leo's legs, piercing through it and chucking into the floor.
You will be tortured to death. I won't spare any mercy.
I lunged upward and grabbed a katana, leaving a hand for the Blood Assassin. It hung from the dome-shaped ceiling on string. The handle was in my grip, and the string snapped, letting me land on my feet. Good thing Mom trained me to be ambidextrous. I went for Leo, who had stumbled a little from the hole in his thigh, startled that I hit him. He really did underestimate my abilities. The katana sliced through him like cake, but only cut through an inch of his flesh.
I didn't hit any bones, because I didn't plan on letting him die easily. After he had killed Cheryl, I didn't think I'd ever unsee those bloody eyes of hers; that pool of blood that could drown a man; that pale and lifeless body of what was left of the girl who seemed to catch my heart by a graze of her hand. I wouldn't forgive him. Not even if he begged on his hands and knees for mercy. Leo whipped around and grabbed the knife, letting it hit my shoulder. I clenched my jaw and made a quick exit to his right, my left hand letting the katana slice into his side.
"Not bad for someone with so little skill," Leo muttered, wiping off the blood without so much as a discomforted expression in his face. "Then again, you have great stamina and strength judging from the monster I sent to kill you a few weeks ago."
Monster?
My eyes widened when I remembered the time I had accidentally dragged Cheryl into a closet with me to hide from a hideous monster. "You're the one who sent that beast?" I questioned, though I had basically repeated what he said.
Leo laughed, "Of course, you idiot." His icy blue eyes gleamed. "I sent it to kill you, but unfortunately that just strengthened the once weak bond between you and Cheryl." He spat the last sentence with pure disgust, almost a hint of jealousy and envy in his voice.
I clicked my tongue and put the katana up, "Dumbass. You shouldn't be jealous of me." I glared at him. "You're one to talk. You killed Cheryl, so you don't have a reason to be mad."
"I do, and I remain jealous," Leo snapped, as if I had pushed a sensitive button. "You had a chance with Cheryl; for all those years, you had her attention, and yet you never took that chance. I could've swept her off her feet if you died from that monster attack, but you survived."
