Tristan Tanner
Go to sleep, loser.
I rolled over on my bed, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in. Ever since the day Leo had said he kissed Cheryl, I wished I could get my hands on his throat and tear it apart. Gruesome, I know, but it would probably never happen anyway. Besides, if I did that, I don't think I'd forgive myself for it.
I rolled over onto my stomach and peered over the edge of the bed. Cheryl was sprawled out on the floor, snuggled in her blanket like a warm burrito. She was facing towards me, her arms on the pillow. You could see the necklace gleaming confidently from underneath the shadows. A small smile appeared on my face as I watched her sleep. Now I sound creepy. My arm hung off the side of my bed, grabbing her hand in mine.
Cheryl's lips perked up slightly, making my heart jump. I guess this time my feelings aren't going to change. In the silent moonlit room, I took my chance and leaned over slightly. I placed a delicate kiss on her forehead and pulled back, squeezing her hand. Effortlessly, she made my heart beat wildly when she smiled.
I will protect you.
"I promise.."

"Ah, Tristan?"
A cold shiver went bolting down my spine. The voice was all too familiar. Leo. My arms and legs felt sore as I stretched them out, opening my eyes. A dark room was what I was held in. Dark neon lights hung around the ceiling as lab scientists walked around, some eyeing me like I was an unknown specimen. In a cage, I felt like a hostage. Leo stood in front of me, a sarcastic smile on his grim face.
"You're finally awake," he said. His hands tucked behind his back.
I didn't reply, and instead, I stayed silent. Anything could be up his sleeves. A binding spell. Poison darts. A weapon. Literally anything.
"No reply?" Leo questioned, smirking. "Such a shame. I suppose you're wondering why you're here."
"No shit Sherlock," I muttered. I stood up and walked around the perimeter of the cage. My hand touched the bars, my fingers sliding across them. Megatronian steel. As hard as diamond. There was no way to get out of this so easily.
"We're using you as bait. And for an essential trade."
I snapped back at him, the word catching my attention. "Trade?"
Leo smiled sarcastically once again. "It won't be long before Cheryl finds out you're here. We'll be ready to trap her in a plasmic prism." He held up the eerie purple prism in his hand, spinning it around. "It'll expand as soon as she sets it off and trap her. Then we'll ask for a fairly simple exchange. Your life for her own."
I grabbed the bar and gripped it tightly. "What makes you think she'll do something as stupid as that?"
"It's so obvious," Leo replied, walking behind his desk. "Even William Kei could see it. She'd do anything to die and save a friend at the same time. Moreover, you're her only friend. The exchange will seem like a wonderful dream." An evil smirk caught his mouth. "But of course, we'll be killing you too."
I let go of the bar and almost snickered at his idiocy. "Try it. The only ones going to the underworld are you and your down-under crew." The scientists who overheard me shivered visibly. "She'd kill you all before you even twitch a muscle."
"With her music attribute's spirit in our control? That's unlikely to happen," Leo said confidently.
"Why do you even love her if you're going to kill her?" I questioned. My arms crossed as I glared at him, sending bullets in his direction. He seemed unfazed. "That's pretty fucked up, even for a bastard like you."
"Love is something so small, yet so powerful," he responded blankly. "Personally, the bond Cheryl and I have is too dangerous, so our love-"
"Newsflash, buddy: SHE DOESN'T FUCKING LOVE YOU!"
Silence erupted in the laboratory. Everyone had paused in mid-step, suddenly interested in our small conversation. I clenched my hands into fists and punched one of the bars out of anger. Green light emitted from my hand, and the bar bent outward. Leo seemed surprised by the sudden action but remained calm.
He smiled and said, "You have no right to be mad in this situation."
"Of course I fucking do!" I shouted angrily. "Because I-"
I abruptly stopped myself from speaking any further, and Leo laughed, amused by my retorts. He walked up to the cage and grabbed a fistful of my shirt, pulling me against the bars. I admit, it was painful slamming into them. His eyes glowed a bright orange, shadowing over the icy blue.
"Are you mad because of the fact that I love her and want to kill her, or are you mad at the fact that you love her just as well, maybe even more, but can't protect her?" The question caught me off guard, and he let me go, shoving me away. I fell to the floor of the cage, and he walked out of the laboratory, waving as he told the scientists, "Make sure to give him a hell he will never forget."

Cheryl, I'm so sorry.
Please forgive me.
I laid on the floor of the cage, bruised and beaten into a pulp. The only thought running through my mind was Cheryl's name, praying silently that she wouldn't do anything rash. But of course, there weren't any promises. The scientists ran several tests on me to see what my pain tolerance level was. I didn't make a sound at any of them. Electrocution. Burning. High altitude levels. Oxygen deprivation. Starvation. They even tried to drown me.
I wouldn't flinch for a second. I felt tired from all the tests; my legs ached, and my arms felt sore. My heart was pumping as fast as it could, only to let my wounds bleed. Bruises ran down my back, peeking through the burned skin. Pain wasn't what I was worried about right now. I was worried about what they would do to Cheryl if she came here.
I'm not with her right now. One day of training might not be enough for her. My eyes began to water as I slowly felt a swelling in my heart. This was the only pain I could feel. It's my fault if you get hurt. For the years of my life that I used to protect you... The scientists must've seen a change in me because as soon as a tear dropped, they crowded over to me and watched intently. A small chuckle burned my throat.
"Cheryl..." I muttered, my eyes staring at the empty abyss. I stared at the scientists, only to freak them out. "She's going to kill you all."
