A lifeless body with a green glow usually isn't a good sign. Right now, the brighter the glow is, the more power I'm putting into it. I felt my arms shaking as the time attribute seemed to be seeping into Cheryl's body, trying to bring her dead cells back to life. Reversing all of time was too complicated, so maybe I could just reverse what was left of her. Something my mother suggested I could've done if I wanted to bring someone back. The veins in my arms were pulsing with a neon green shimmer, and I felt the blood rush up and down my body.
To my horror, her eyeballs had began rolling towards the green glow, almost as if they were captivated by it. I shivered and watched as they rolled up her body, climbing back into her eye sockets beneath the bandana. I should save at least some of my power back before I look for Leo. Just the thought of his name made me clench my jaw. The boy claimed he loved Cheryl, and he went on to mercilessly kill her. If that was love, what was hatred? A full on make-out session so you can suffocate them to death? No, I didn't think so. A little weary, I felt my head spinning round and round as my power depleted rapidly.
"Oh please dear lord, show some mercy to me," I murmured as I lifted the bandana off of Cheryl's face.
The blood still drowned out her eyes, but she seemed to be getting a little more color in her skin. Her skin wasn't the color of icicles anymore, but more of a soft snow. Like it always was. Mom. Give me some strength. I put my hands down, and beads of sweat trickled down my neck. I don't know if this will work or not. No one's really done this before. I clenched my jaw again and stood up. Even if I'm not trying to reverse what happened to her, she's still glowing green. Maybe I can actually leave now.
I gave a slight prayer to the skies and looked around for any weapons. My eyes landed on the familiar red knife a few yards away. I jogged towards it and looked at it, and I knew what it was. The Blood Assassin. If Leo had used it to activate the Atlas Bomb, then he probably put Cheryl's attributes in a bottle. That meant most of the governors and documents were within a ten-mile radius!
I picked up the Blood Assassin and gave Cheryl a quick glance. The pool of blood was depleting, being sucked back into her. It's working so far! I wanted to smile, but we were far from being rescued. First, I should evacuate all of the governors and make sure all documents are gone. Then, Leo is on my confrontation list.
~~~
Wandering aimlessly around the halls, I headed towards the center of the building. My heart was beating out of my chest. Sounds of yelling and screaming were heard, and I shivered when I realized the voices came from my imagination. The halls were silent, just as my feelings were. It takes the Atlas Bomb about 30 minutes to activate completely. And it's been ten minutes so far. Does that mean Leo hasn't even started to program the Atlas Bomb yet?
I rested my hand on the cracks of the walls, trying to feel for a draft. If I was closer to the outside, I would be to the victims. Since the outside of the building was surrounded by the outside, that meant fresh air had to be somewhere. The wall seemed to be cooler on the left wall, so I followed it. My hand brushed against the concrete surface, letting it guide me.
"Tristan?! Hello? Tristan!"
My mind blurred a little, and I held onto the wall for support. Someone's trying to mindlink me? My eyes widened when I realized that the voice had been with me my whole life.
"Mom?!" I called back.
When a parent had a mindlink attribute, such as telepathy, they were able to link with their child without their child needing to have a mindlink attribute as well.
I could practically hear my mother sigh in relief. "Oh thank gosh Tristan! I was so scared. I thought y-you died, just.. like—"
"Mom. Stop. I'm alive. More importantly, why are you here?" I knew that talking back to my mom was a low blow, but I really was concerned.
"Tristan. You are my child. Of course I would come and save you. I also arrived with the police, and they brought back as many politicians and governors, as well as recovering all of the very important documents. Where are you?"
I completely zoned out. If Mom recovered them, then that means I can head straight to Leo. And I know EXACTLY where he is.
I began running in the opposite direction of where I was originally headed. "Mom, I need you to listen to me. Very CAREFULLY." I could hear her confusion on the other side as she heard my stern tone. "I.. I need you to get away. Run. I need you to go outside the ten-mile radius and protect the others. I'm basically telling you to abandon me."
Silence had flown in through the other side. I heard a sob, and then a sniffle.
"Tristan, y-you know I can't do that. You're my son— I created you, and I want to see you grow old..." She paused when a sob escaped her lips. "I can't just.. abandon you."
"I'm going to die as a hero, Mom." I told her, letting her hear my voice. "Please. Please protect yourself and let me die a hero like Papa."
I could hear her heart cracking, and voices were heard. I heard something about protection and the governors. Mom's breathing was ragged, and I almost felt the life of me drop. I continued running, ignoring the tearing in my heart. The Blood Assassin had been held in my grip, and I waited for Mom's answer.
"Okay," her voice said. She sounded as if she was swallowing down her motherhood, her pride, her own life down her throat. "Make me proud. Make Papa proud. Please, make the world proud, little love."
The nickname had shot an arrow through my chest, and I felt it pierce within me. The connection broke off, and I clenched my jaw.
There's no going back.
I kicked open an iron door, and Leo was leaning against a keyboard resting on the table. The room was a bright blue, and I couldn't see any other colors, except for a small bottle in Leo's hand. It was a sickly red-purple mix, and I immediately knew it was full of Cheryl's attributes— no, not just her attributes. Her own living spirit and soul were poured into those contents.
"Good afternoon," Leo said calmly, yet it felt taunting. "I've been expecting you, Tristan."
"Don't say my name with your tainted voice," I spat harshly. "I didn't come here to be buddy-buddy, you loveheaded freak."
For a second, I knew what Leo was thinking. But I was too slow. The bottle had been put into a small injection hole within the table, and the screen had a window pop up.
A voice then said, "Atlas Bomb: T-Minus 30 minutes."
"What're you gonna do now, you rotten egghead?" Leo asked.
I almost wanted to laugh. "Your insults are a disappointment to cruelty itself." I looked up at him and glared at him straight in the eyes. "I'm gonna tell you what I'm going to do."
"And what's that?"
"I'm going to take your life in exchange for Cheryl's."
