I wiped away my tears to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Someone.. caught me? Nostalgia hit me across the face as I put my arms down, looking up at the person before me. My eyes widened. The captivating emerald green stared back at me, capturing me into a beautiful void. My heart sped up when I saw that his left eye was replaced with a hazel one. I didn't know how to react or what to do in that moment. I was paralyzed with shock, and he just remained silent, staring endlessly.
"The Gatekeeper Of Hell!" someone had screamed, snapping me out of my daze.
Tristan Tanner.
A grin broke out on Tristan's face, and he said proudly, "I believe this is Rescue #100." He helped me to the ground, and I was placed back onto my feet. He took something from out of his backpack. A red notebook. "I couldn't let you die if I still had notes to return."
My hands raised up to touch his face, and he stared down at me blankly. My eyes were still widened, and shock numbed my muscles. My fingers brushed against his cheek, and he closed his green eye to avoid getting poked. It's pure flesh. He's real. I poked his cheek, still unconvinced, and he laughed a little. My hands cradled his face gently, and his hand wrapped around my wrist, rubbing my palm with his thumb. It was made of metal. His hand was.. made of metal. Tears were streaming down my face now, and emotions seemed to running through my bloodstream at an alarming rate.
Tristan.. is alive.
I fell to my knees suddenly when my legs kept trembling, and Tristan crouched down in front of me, his metal hand stroking mine. "Hey, hey," he whispered softly, his voice orbiting me, "you don't need to cry."
"H-How can I n-not?" I stuttered between sobs. I looked up at him, ignoring the tears rolling down my face, and he smiled kindly. His smile, oh god, his smile— I missed it so much. "Y-You're really alive and breathing right in front of me."
I wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly as sobs broke me down. Tristan is alive. Tristan is right in front of me. I'm not dreaming. He's actually right in front of me! I started crying on his shoulder, and he put my notebook back in his backpack. Hoisting me up, I was carried by him. His hand ran through my black hair, tangling the purple streaks.
"I love you," Tristan said proudly with a smile.
I pulled back and held his face in one of my hands. Leaning forward suddenly, I placed my lips on his. He kissed me back without any hesitancy. People were screaming and cheering their lungs out. I didn't notice the crowd of people around us, so spaced out yet so close. That's when news reporters approached. I quickly pulled back before they could film us kissing each other. Tristan gave me a puzzled look. It was clear to see he was questioning the sudden kiss. I blushed and smiled at him, ignoring the tears streaming down my face.
"I love you too."

Arriving at the same noodle shop we once went to, I had so many questions. I still kind of trembled whenever Tristan looked at me because it was alarming to see him. We were shoving our faces with fortune cookies and chocolate peppermint candies. My eyes kept looking at his left hand. It was made of metal. A prosthetic hand with nerves. Over time, prosthetic hands and legs and other limbs were able to connect with actual nerves, so fingers can bend properly and smoothly without functioning incorrectly. After eating the main course and waiting for dessert, I grabbed his hand.
"What happened?" I asked softly, my fingers rubbing against his metal palm.
He smiled at my touch, almost as if he missed it. "An entire sword had cut off my hand."
"How're you alive?"
"I dunno. This guy named Doctor Handel or Hamburger or something said that I had managed to slip my conscious mind into reality before the day I should've been announced dead. Apparently, I woke up about five months later. They gave me a prosthetic hand for the missing limb, and a hazel eye because mine had been crushed by a dagger."
He flinched when he heard me whimper at his oddly specified description. Even if he isn't dead, it's all my fault. I wiped away the tears from my eyes and held his hand up. The metal plates made it shiny in the light. I kissed it lightly, and a small smile appeared on my face.
I looked up at him, seeing his cheeks dusted pink, and asked, "Did you feel that?" Tristan nodded, blushing even more at my innocence. "How'd you get that hazel eye?" I questioned, curious. "Was it donated?"
"Yeah," Tristan replied. "By an old man named Caleb Hougins."
My eyes widened. Caleb. I leaned over and looked Tristan straight in the eye. He looked confused and startled. "How'd you do it? How'd you turn into Caleb?" He blinked, obviously surprised by my questions. "Why were you watching over me then? Was his appearance based off of somebody?" Tristan took this chance and lurched over, kissing me. When he leaned back, I blushed, but nonetheless pouted childishly.
"You remember when I said I killed Leo?" He asked. I nodded. "He had this other attribute besides Hacker. And it was called Deceiver. You should know about that clearly. I used the Blood Assassin to murder him, so I drank his attributes. Deceiver is a good attribute to disguise me with."
"Then what about the nightmare thingy?" I questioned curiously. "I know that Caleb did it."
"Turns out Leo had an extra attribute," Tristan replied, smiling at my curiosity. "It's called Dream Factory. It's a rare attribute known in Japan, but somehow it got into Leo. It's only common in Japan because of their genetics. Usually, no one moves out to protect the attribute. It's able to connect the present world with dreams or nightmares using pasts."
"Ooohh~! That's so cool!" I squealed excitedly. "Wait so was that you connecting me to my nightmare or dream?"
"Nightmare."
"So my family isn't psychotic?"
"No! Of course not!" Tristan exclaimed. "I actually met them when I thought it was my time to die. Your sister used her attribute of space control to connect to me. They said that they didn't want you to be burdened since you're the only Blood Assassin left. The Blood Assassins were actually a dynasty of warriors, and they protected what was theirs fiercely." He smirked and put his hand underneath my chin, making me look up at him questionably as he leaned over. "And, they fell in love too young in their age. Sounds familiar, hmm?"
"Did they say anything about falling in love with hot-headed idiots?" I questioned, smiling innocently at him.
Tristan scowled, leaning back. "I am offended."
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" I giggled. I kissed his hand again and smiled, "I missed you a lot."
"I know. And I wish I could've revealed myself earlier," Tristan replied. "But Doctor Hamburger said I wasn't completely recovered yet."
"It's Doctor Hansen," I corrected.
"Don't judge me!"
I snickered at him and said, "At least you're alright. Does Miss Tanner know you're alive?"
Tristan nodded. "She always had. She knew since a week before you headed off the university."
"That's good. No wonder she was so happy that day." I put my hand in his hair and ruffled it up, smiling. "It's good to see you after so long."
Tristan blushed and awkwardly laughed at what I said. "I guess. Though I've seen you more than you'd like to know."
"That sounds like something a pervert would say," I deadpanned.
Tristan immediately stiffened and shook his head, his face red. He moved his arms in a negative motion, freaking out. "I-I didn't mean it that way!"
I smiled and poked his cheek. "You haven't changed that much."
"Same to you," Tristan responded, his left hand pinching my cheek.
"Oooowwww!!"
"Oh shut up! You started it!"
I couldn't help but laugh at his words, the way his voice sounded making my heart melt.
I love him so much.
