"Why do you have flour on your face and in your hair?" I asked, gently putting her down on her feet.
Cheryl touched her face and felt the flour. It almost seemed to be stuck to her skin like a cracking armor. She blushed out of embarrassment. "Oh! I was rolling out pie crust earlier."
"Pie?"
"I guess the surprise is ruined," she said, laughing to herself a little. We walked inside, and I took off my sweater, throwing it onto the couch nearby in the living room. Cheryl held my hand and skipped towards the kitchen, pulling me with her. "I was making pecan pie. For you."
Pecan pie.
I love pecan pie.
I sat down at the dining table as Cheryl strolled into the kitchen. She looked at the oven door. "I put the pie in the oven a while ago, and it should be done soon." She stood up straight and looked at me brightly, a smile on her face. "Are you hungry?"
"Yeah, actually."
Cheryl beamed. Well, isn't she in a good mood today. Smiling, I watched her as she picked up two plates from the counter, putting one in front of me. She untied the apron and folded it, putting it on the rack. Letting her hair down, she sat in front of me.
"I'm not a really good chef," Cheryl murmured with a slight blush, "but I tried my best. So I apologize if it tastes weird. I'm more of a baker than a chef." Her hand held mine, stroking the small metal plates with her thumb. "Go ahead. Try it."
The plate was filled with white rice, and a generous amount of curry was poured over it. Tofu was placed on one side, as well as some meat on the other. A spoon was placed on the plate, and I grabbed it. I felt Cheryl's grip on my hand tighten when I scooped a spoonful of rice and curry, a piece of tofu on top. Oh, pray to the lord and the heavens that this is good. I put the spoon in my mouth and suddenly put it back down.
"I-Is it bad?" Cheryl asked rather quietly, fidgeting in her seat. "Do you need water?"
Holy crap.
My taste buds have suddenly been blessed by this delicacy.
"This is fucking delicious!" I exclaimed, suddenly cramming another spoonful into my mouth. Cheryl perked up at this, her eyes wide. I glanced at her in a flash, only looking back at the food. "Did you make enough for seconds or something?"
The small soft smile on her face made my heart flutter lightly. "Y-Yeah." She took in a breath of relief. "I'm so glad you like it."
"You should try it," I suggested with my mouth full of food.
The whole night was spent with a bunch of jokes tossed around, laughter, and a lot of conversations about school and current job interviews. A lot of the times when Cheryl went off to do something in the kitchen, I couldn't help but just stare at her in admiration. I mean, I was starstruck. This woman could cook, clean, care for things, as well as being able to beat someone up with her own bare hands.
I must be damned if the world has given me such a blessing.
I never had the chance to sit down and think about it, but now that I did tonight, Cheryl was something of an angel to me.
Cheryl Faun
At last, we had finished dinner. "I'll put the last slice of pie into a container so you can take it back with you to the dorms," I offered. I grabbed the almost empty plate that the pie had been placed on and headed towards the kitchen. "Is there anything else you want to take with you before you leave?"
I opened the shelf and peered at the belongings. Container. Container. My eyes landed on the plastic container on one of the higher shelves. I stood up on my toes, reaching towards it. My other hand was on the countertop, pushing me upward. Why do I have to be so short? I squeaked when someone's body pushed up against mine, a hand grabbing the container for me. I turned my head and saw Tristan staring me down. Oh my god, he's too close.
"I wish.. I could take you with me.." he mumbled quietly.
I blushed and turned around, leaning back as he leaned forward. "But you can't, even if you wanted to. You know the dorms are only for students at the university."
Tristan leaned down towards me, making me squeeze my eyes shut. I don't usually act like this when he kisses me, so why am I trying to get away from him? I felt my cheeks blushing softly. Oh, I don't know, Cheryl. Maybe because he's literally up against you? He noticed this as well, because he suddenly smirked.
"What's up with you?" He asked, though he knew just as well as me why I was acting this way.
"S-Stop playing games, Tristan," I retorted in a deadpan, staring at him with an annoyed expression as my cheeks puffed out.
He laughed, putting his face in front of mine. The smile on his face was mischievous and cunning, and I hate to admit it, but it was attractive. "Who said this was a game?"
"T-This isn't funny..." I mumbled quietly, my hands gripping the counter.
Tristan's lips pulled up towards my ear. Almost in a whisper, he said quietly, "I know."
I put my hand on his face, making him close his eyes to avoid getting poked, and pushed him away, blushing out of my mind. He seemed to enjoy my flustered state, and I turned to look away from him, stuttering, "S-Stop it! Y-You're really not funny!"
Tristan chuckled lightly at my words. His metal hand wrapped around my wrist, making me jump a little. I didn't notice until now, but he uses his left hand more often now. Slowly, he pulled my hand off his face, biting my pointer finger in a playful and suggestive manner. I blinked blankly. OHMYGOSH— My face reddened.
"D-Did you just bite me?!"
Tristan laughed again, suddenly finding the situation hysterical. "Yeah, why?"
"W-Why the hell would you do that?!" I exclaimed, pulling my hand away from him as I clutched my wrist. "T-That's so— so weird!"
"You make it sound like it's sexual," Tristan replied bluntly, though the smirk was still on his face, saying something else. He winked lightly, making me realize what he meant.
"You pervert!" I squeaked, hitting him lightly. My body trembled as I sent a punch at his arm. "O-Oh my god—"
Tristan hugged me towards him, making me blush madly against his chest. His hand stroked my back, trying to calm my nerves down. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He apologized, laughing.
My cheeks puffed out slightly, and I looked up at him, flustered. "It's still not funny."
Tristan kissed my forehead softly. "Okay okay. I really am sorry."
"You're such a pervert."
"If guys weren't perverts, humans would be extinct by now."
"You say that a lot."
"So you can learn it."
