Chapter 41
We got back home in no time at all, Quinn and I didn't really say anything to each other the entire drive back, but Eliana did, but I didn't really speak to her, there's really nothing to say.
Pulling over in front of the house, there's other cars there; Quinn opened the door for me, taking my hand, leading me inside, but I don't want to go in there, not where Mia died.
"It's alright, everything will be fine."
He whispered; in my ear, as we walked through the house. Mike is in the dining room, along with several different people I have seen around town, but haven't talk too much, in the time I've been here."Have a seat, please. The both of you." Mike said motioning to the two empty chairs. Quinn never let go of my hand, reassuring me; that I am perfectly safe here with him.
"I am so sorry to have to do this to you Shayla. But unfortunately it must be done." I nodded, taking a deep breathe, trying to keep myself and Eliana calm.
"I am Mia's lawyer, she came to me not a week ago and had her will changed. She had no family whatsoever; she left some things to the town, but most of it she left to you Shayla." "She what? I'm sorry, did I hear you right?"
He nodded. "Yes you have. She made you her sole beneficiary. This house, is yours now." Sitting back, I can't believe this. "But how can that be? I've only known her for a few months." "She wanted it this way. She never told anyone, but I think she has been ill for quite some time. I'm sorry, but this is how she wanted things to be. Congratulations."
Mike pulled out some papers, and passed them over for me to sign. "Do I really have to deal with this now?" He nodded. "Yes unfortunately we do." Sighing, I grabbed the papers, and signed my name, they have to be signed by a second; so I asked Quinn to do it, there's no one I trust more to do this with then him.
After we signed the papers; Mike signed, then filed everything. "You are now the owners of this house. I am so sorry for your loss." "Thank you. Have any arrangements been made for a funeral?" He nodded. "Yes she made the arrangements a while back. It will be on Tuesday at 3:00pm at the church."
I nodded, looking down at the table.
"Alright. Thank you; now if you will excuse me, I need some time to myself." He nodded. "Of course. Let us know if you need anything." "I will thank you." Quinn stayed, while I walked them out, locking the door behind them.
"How are you doing?"
"How do you think I'm doing?"
He pulled me into his arms, taking me upstairs. "Has Eliana said anything to you?" "No not one word; since we left New York. I know she's there, she just won't talk to me." Opening my door, he led me inside; locking the door."It'll be alright. What are you going to do?" "What do you mean?" "Are you going to stay here? Or sell it?" Sighing, I looked around the place.
Everything seems to different now, but it's not. "I don't know. But I think she'd want me to stay here." "Then I think that's what you should do. If you want, I can stay here with you. I can help you take care of the place." I looked at him. "But what about the other house?" "Why would I need that, when I have this, and I have you?" I nodded. "Then yes, I would like it if you came here to stay with me. I just can't stay here on my own." He nodded.
"Done. I will move in here with you, to keep you safe."
He said giving me a kiss. For a second, I want to tell him I love him, but it's not the right time to do that.
"What are we going to do though?" "What do you mean?" "I mean things like the service, I know she made arrangements for it, but do we need to do anything?" "I don't really know. We can see what the plans are, and go from there. But I would think they have everything ready."
I nodded, and got up from the couch.
I grabbed Lilith, holding her in my arms.
"Where are you going?" "I have to do something, so I am going to get my stuff from your car, and figure out what I'm going to do with it." "I'll help you." He said following me down.
We got everything out of the car, people kept bringing over casseroles, by eight the fridge and freezer is full of 'condolence casseroles', as Quinn calls them.
Looking around the house, I don't know what to do with any of it, I don't know whether we should keep it the same or change things. I even asked Eliana, but she won't talk to me. I don't know what's happening to her, but I'm getting a bad feeling about it. Quinn and I walked over to the church, to see about the funeral, it's not big, but it is quite lovely, on the outside, and on the inside.
"Hello there, how may I help you?" "We're here about the service for Mia." He nodded. "Yes of course, come into my office." We followed the elderly man, and sat with him. "What would you like to know?" I looked at Quinn, suddenly unable to speak.
"We would like to know if there is anything that needs to be done." "Well there are flowers coming, and the music is taken care of, several people from town, are going to speak; but would the two of you like to speak?"
Quinn nodded, but I didn't do or say anything. I just sat there, while they talked, about what was going to be happening on Tuesday afternoon.
We said thank you to the minister, and left, heading back to the house, to figure out what to do next.
