   Chapter 50

Not knowing what's going on out there is killing me. I have to know that he's alright. But he told me to stay in here, and keep the door locked.

"Are you really going to do as you're told?"

"I should at least this once. He loves me, and he wants to keep me safe, but I also want to keep him safe."

"Then do it. We have to make sure he's safe. We will protect him, and he will protect us."

I nodded, moving to the door, I took off my shoes; so I can move quieter out there.

Tightening my grip on the knife; I unlocked and opened the door. Listening it's silent out there, stepping out; I crept around the house, but there's no sign of Quinn in the back of the house, so I decided to make my way to the front of the house, looking for him.

The floor is still covered in glass, but I don't care, I have to find Quinn.

"Shayla what the hell are you doing?" Almost jumping out of my skin, Quinn is coming up from the back. I don't know why I'm not feeling or hearing him coming up to me. "I told you to stay in your room!" "I know you did. But we had to know you were okay." Taking my hand, he smiled. "Whoever it was is long gone. I got the stuff, we'll cover the window, and get new glass tomorrow."

We started for the kitchen, and Quinn grabbed the broom. "You get some sleep, and I will clean this up." "I don't want to sleep. Cormac is still out there." "We don't know it was him." "Oh I know it was him, alright, you know it, and I know it. He did this, and he killed Mia. Even though he said he had nothing to do with it, I know he did it. And he will pay for it dearly."

"You don't know that." "Yes I do. You know him. He will stop at nothing to get to me, nothing."

Holding me close; he stroked my back up and down, trying to calm me. "It's okay. Just calm down." Picking me up; he carried me into my room; holding me close to him, he settled me down; and pulled the covers up around me.

"Now get some sleep and I will check on you in a while."

"I don't want to sleep." He leaned down, and kissed my forehead. "I know, but you have to. Eliana talk to her, get her to sleep; I know you can control her."

"He is right, you need to sleep. Let me take over, and sleep my dear. Just let go."

Sighing I did as she said, and allowed her to take control over my body; putting me to sleep.

"Sleep well my love."

Opening my eyes, I'm stretched on my side; Quinn is lying next to me, he's still sleeping. Looking at him, he's beautiful, he really is. I have no idea what we did to deserve someone like him to take care of us.

"You have always deserved someone to take care of you. I have done everything I could; but it's not enough. He will take good care of you."

Smiling; she has been taking care of me for so long; and I have tried to take care of us both.

We have moved so much over the years, it's nice to be some-place that we can exist.

Climbing out of bed; I grabbed my robe. "How long have you been up?" Turning around, he's sitting up; staring at me.

"A few minutes. What happened after I went to sleep?" "I cleaned up; covered the window, went to my room for a while, but I couldn't sleep, so I came in here, to watch you sleep." "You know if I was anyone else, I would think that's a little bit creepy."

He shrugged, climbing out of bed, to stand in front of me. His chest is bare, but lucky for me he has on track pants.

"Let's get something to eat."

I nodded heading for the kitchen. He always make the meals, but this time I'm making food. I'm not a bad cook, but he never gives me the chance to show it, and this time I will show him, what I can do.

By the time he came in, he's dressed and has a smile on his face.

"Have a seat." I said pouring two glasses of orange juice. "So when we go into the shop, I won't be able to stay for long, I have somewhere I need to be; so Tina is coming in to help you and Lisa." "But doesn't she have work at the diner?" Shaking his head. "No it's her day off." I smiled. I love it when she comes and helps us. "Good. Then it will be a girl's day." "Exactly. Now you sit." He said getting up from the table, making me sit. We ate breakfast, cleaned up and grabbed Coffey to go; and headed out.

Looking at what's left of the window, I can't help but wonder what Quinn will do about Cormac now.

I know for sure what I want to do, but I can't; not quite yet. I have to wait until the time is just right to strike at him.

"What are you thinking?"

Quinn asked opening the door for me.

"Just wondering about what we're going to do about Cormac. I know he did this, I just have to get the proof that he did it, and I know I will."

"We'll deal with him. He has it coming, we just have to patient, and wait. He will slip up; and when he does, we will be right there, to give it to him."

Looking at him; right now he seems so different from the boy I met back in September.

At first he seemed to be the hunter I thought he was, but then I got to know him, and I knew he was more than that, but now looking at him; he has turned into the true dragon hunter he was born and meant to be!

"What are you looking at?" He asked looking at me, as he drove to the shop.

"You. Right now, you seem so different. You're strong, and powerful." "I'm the same person I was before." "No you're not." I whispered as he stopped in front of the shop.
