Here's chapter 1 enjoy
Present day Year 2014 New York
It's been, over two hundred years, since my life changed forever. After that night, I searched for my friends, but it was no use, I couldn't find any of them.
They either went into hiding, or there all dead. I did as my mother said with her dying breath, I ran. I never stay in one place very long. I've evolved with the times, no one ever notices me, and it was just the way I liked it. Finely after so long, of running, and hiding, I decided to stay in a town, just outside New York. That was a few months ago now.
It's the middle of September, the semester just started, a week ago, and once again I'm the new girl, all on her own.
In my centuries on this planet, I will never get used to this feeling, the feeling of not knowing anyone, or knowing where to go.
I was on my way to my locker, and I got this prickly sensation on the back of my neck, my dragon senses going on high alert. I scanned the crowd, in the hall, but nothing, seemed different from any other day here at this school, even though I have only been going here for a week. But that feeling was still there on the back of my neck. I decided, to shrug it off, and continue on with my school day.
I was just about to my locker, when I saw someone hanging out next to it. Walking up to it, I unlocked the door, and threw my stuff in, and headed right for my next class, completely ignoring the person, standing beside my locker. As I headed into the classroom, I caught up to my only friend here. Jess, she's the only person, that talked to me, my first few days here. We sat next to each other, smiling.
"I saw this strange new guy, hanging out at my locker, when I got there. I don't know who he is, but he kind of gave me a weird feeling." I said looking around the class room. Jess shook her head, and said.
"I haven't seen him sorry, but I can guarantee that I will keep an eye out for him." She gave me a wink. She was about to say more, looking up at the front of the room, but I grabbed her arm, body stiffening, and said. "That's him. That's the guy that was at my locker."
As the guy walked in, he handed the teacher a note, and took a look around the room. He nodded at the teacher, and took the empty desk right next to ours, and mine.
Jess leaned in closer, and whispered.
"I don't know, who that is, but I plan to find out." She gave me a little smile, and turned her attention back to the front of the class. Our class started, and everyone went quiet, except for two girls in the back. All through class, I struggled to stay focused on the board, and the teacher, and all I could feel was that boys eyes on me.
So as soon as class was out, I was the first one out the door. I ran into the girl's bathroom, and hurled. I washed out my mouth, I looked up and saw Jess standing against the wall, arms crossed over her chest, staring at me. "Are you alright?"
She walked up to me, and said.
"Because you don't look very good." I nodded, and said. "I'm fine, really. I just, I don't know, I was fine one minute, then the next." I spit into the sink, and said.
"Now let's just forget about this, I am fine really. We have class, now let's go, and forget about this."
She eyed me, then nodded, and said. "Fine, I'll forget about it, for now. But if that happens again, you're going to the nurse, understood?" I nodded. "Understood. Now can we go?" she walked out the door, with me right on her heels.
Next class is English, I'm okay in that class, but it's my last class I look forward to the most. So when I walked into class, who was sitting there, but the new guy. Sitting at the desk, right next to where I always sit.
I thought I was going to pass out, but I managed to stay up right, no one seemed to notice it, but him.
So I took my seat, and did my best to ignore him. I barely heard a word, said in class, all I could hear was my fast beating heart.
But somehow, something got through, I looked down at my book, and saw all these notes I wrote down. I didn't know what was happening to me, so I got out of there as fast as I could, and away from him.
As soon, as I got out of the classroom, the bell rang for lunch, so I grabbed mine, and headed right for the door.
That's what I need, fresh air. As soon as I walked out the door, I could breathe again, taking a deep breath.
I was alone outside, so I sat against a wall of the school, and got out my note book, and went to the back. Flipping to the sketches of my mom, and my sister, in there dragon and human forms.
I could feel tears, starting to form, so I wiped away the tears, of my past, and turned to a sketch that I was working on.
I was so engrossed in what I was doing, that I didn't even notice the person, coming stand beside me.
I almost jumped out of my skin, when they said "Hey" I looked up and saw that it was the new guy. I struggled not to run away. I forced a smile, and said 'hey' and motioned for him to have a seat, even though I wanted him to leave. He threw his stuff down, and sat down beside me. I extended my hand, and said.
"Hey I'm Shayla Lightning." He took my hand held it tight, and said. "Hi I'm Quinn Von. It's nice to meet you Shayla is it?" I nodded, and said. "Yeah, I know it might be an odd name, but I like it." He smiled, and said as he was unpacking his lunch.
"Yeah it suits you. So tell me about yourself." Shrugging. "Well there's not much to tell really. I'm seventeen, and I'm on my own." "Oh, and I'm over four hundred years old, give a take". But I didn't say it aloud. I never do, so I just said.
"That's about it. How about you?"
He shrugged, and said. "Well, I'm eighteen, my parents and I just moved here. It was against my will of course, my parents got transferred for work. So they dragged me here, right along with them, and here I am."
I couldn't help but laugh at that, he gave me a look, and I said. "Oh come on, it's not so bad here." He shrugged. "No I guess not. At least not now." I took a bite out of my sandwich, and I noticed the large ring on his hand, I knew it from somewhere. He noticed me staring at it, and moved his hand closer.
It was a dragon, with a red stone, in the centre, with a sword at its back. Then it hit me, I turned a few pages, in my notebook, out of his eye sight, I saw the ring in my book.
I knew that ring well. The ring of the dragon slayer!
It took me a moment, to come back to reality. "Yeah, the rings been in my family for a long time. I don't like it, but my father wants me to wear it."
His voice rang in my ears. "It's cool. Listen, I've got to go. It was nice meeting you." I said and shoved everything, in my bag, and made my escape. I made it too my locker without anyone seeing me.
I looked around, then opened it, grabbed my stuff, and headed back for the exit, and ran for my car.
I have to get away from here.
I threw everything in the back, climbed in, and sped off. My whole ride home, I tried to wrap my head around this.
My mother said, there would always be those, that still believed, and that would always be hunting me, dragon slayers.
But I thought they would have died out.
Now I know, she was right and I came that close, to being discovered. I was a fool, to think, that I could have settled down here, I can never stop running, just like she said. All of the sudden, my phone started to ring.
''Hey Jess, what's up?" "What happened to you? You just left." "Yeah sorry I got sick again. So I thought, I would just head home. But don't worry, I'll be okay. Listen, I'm driving, I'll call you later, by."
I hung up, and tried to take a deep breath. I pulled, into my place, and ran inside, and made sure all my doors were locked, and the drapes closed.
