       Chapter 52

Stepping up to the front door, there's two boxes sitting at the door waiting for us. "Who are these for?" I asked as we each grabbed one and opened the door heading inside.

"Well it would appear that one is addressed to you, and one is addressed for me." Quinn said, giving me a quick peck on the cheek. Taking mine, I went into my room, closing the door behind me.

Setting the box on my bed, I went to my closet and pulled out my stash of cash, adding what I got today to the rest of it.

Setting it back in place; hidden behind clothes.

I ripped the box open, going through it, everything I ordered came. Stuff for stockings, and little things for the girls and for Quinn, I even got some cat stuff for Lilith, who is once again sleeping on my pillow.

Sorting everything, I made sure I absolutely have everything and started wrapping it all so Quinn doesn't see any of it.

"You know you are spoiling them all."

"Yeah well, it's our first Christmas together, and I want it to be perfect for everyone."

I said stuffing the box in my closet.

Heading out to the kitchen, I hadn't realized how long I had been in my room, but it's now dark out.

"We need to fly; I need to be out there, up in the clouds."

"I know. But it's not safe, Cormac could be out there right now, waiting for us."

Quinn is coming out of his room, closing the door. Yes even though we are technically together, we still have our separate rooms. "What were you two talking about?" "Eliana wants out; she wants to fly." He nodded, agreeing with her. "Well it's been a while, so let's give the girl what she wants." "But it's not safe out there."

"There won't be a time when it's safe. We'll wait until midnight, then go out." I can tell she wants this, but I'm still not so sure about it. "Fine. But we will only be out there for a few minutes. Then we come back in." He nodded, and Eliana is laughing with excitement.

"Midnight." I said pulling on my jacket. "If we're going then we go now." Quinn nodded, coming up from the basement. He's holding a gun, loading it and tucking it at the back of his pants. "Alright then let's go." Grabbing the keys, we ran out; locking up and running through the streets.

We can't risk anyone seeing us; and that means no car, so we run, until we get to the woods, which doesn't take us long.

Stripping off my jacket, I told him to move back so I can make the change.

It happened quickly, my body stretching and growing until I'm the dark red dragon. Lowering my body to the ground I allowed him to climb up onto my back.

"Hold on tight." I said and launched into the sky; slicing through the cloud cover, leveling off once we're above the clouds.

"You alright back there?" I asked but Quinn didn't say anything; looking behind me, he's frozen stiff, just like the last time I took him with me, so I blew some warm air on him; making him more comfortable.

"Keep an eye out for Cormac. He could be out here anywhere." "Do not worry, I will be ever vigilant. Just enjoy this, you earned it."

She said, gesturing to the sky all around us. She's right; gliding through the air, the wind through my wings.

"You are such an amazing creature Shayla. You will are a queen among men."

He said, lowering himself so he's lying across my back. Something started picking at the back of my neck. "We need to head back." I said and quickly turned around; heading for the clearing.

Landing I let Quinn down and changed back. Grabbing my coat, and his hand I started pulling him towards the house.

"We need to get inside now." He didn't say anything, only tried to keep up with me, it started snowing, and that made me run even faster, that picking still at the back of my neck.

"What is it?" "I don't know. I got this feeling, all I know is when I get it, I start to run, and don't stop until I know we're safe." Running through the streets of town, might not be totally safe, but right now it's a lot safer than being up there, where Cormac can easily strike. Looking down the street, there's fresh tire tracks in the snow; who else would be out this late? It has to have been Cormac; he's the only one that makes any sense here. Making it back to the house, I stopped long enough to get the door open, locking it I ran around the house, making sure everything is locked up tight.

Quinn tried to get me to stop; but I can't stop, I won't stop until I know he's safe, that's all I care about right now. Quinn has to be safe.

Taking hold of my arm, he stopped me making me look at him.

"You have to stop! We're safe, the house is locked down tight, and you're safe. So stop!"

Taking a deep breathe, I nodded; taking control over my body so I don't collapse against him. Leading me to the living room, he put me on the couch and put a blanket over me, since my teeth started to chatter.

"Maybe that flight wasn't such a good idea after all." Shaking my head. "No. I'll be fine. Don't worry."

But looking at him, he does worry, the look in his eyes, he's worried that something is going to happen to me again, but it won't. I just have to get some rest, and I will be fine.

"I'll make some tea. You need to something to warm you up." touching my cheek, he left leaving me lying on the couch. A few minutes later he came back, with two mugs one for me, and one for him.

Helping me sit up, he sat behind me; an arm around my waist, holding onto me.

It feels good to be in his arms, it makes me feel safe; like nothing can hurt me.

But I know it's not the case at all. We are surrounded by danger.

Cormac is out there, right now waiting for us to do something so he can get his hands on me. I have to stop him, and I will.

Taking a few sips my eyes start to drift closed, until everything around me when dark.
