chapter 5

A noise pounding in my head, it sounded like a phone ringing, which is odd, because I thought I had turned it off.

I opened my eyes, pushing the cat off of me and grabbing for the phone.

I looked at the screen. "Oh god Jess." I thought about answering but how could I? I had to leave that life behind me. I turned it off and looked out the window; it's dark out, how long had I been asleep? I looked at the clock on my phone it's past eight.

Jess left me a message.

"Shayla I don't know what's happened to you, but I am starting to get really worried about you.

Please call me; Shayla I just want to help you. To know you're safe. Please call. I love you." She hung up, I didn't want to keep hurting her but I couldn't tell her I was being hunted again.

So I sent her a quick text telling her that I'm sorry and that I'm okay and not to worry about me and that I loved her too.

I didn't give her a chance to respond I took out the battery and smashed the phone.

The beast needed food, but I didn't have anything, so I went downstairs remembering Mia said she would leave me some dinner. I headed down; Mia wasn't anywhere to be seen so I went into the kitchen. She left me a note

"I left you a plate in the oven; I hope you're feeling better."

I pulled out the plate, chicken, baked potato, and salad. Does she eat like this every night?

For a moment I thought about going back upstairs, but thought better of it, and sat at the table and ate. Everything here is so strange; Cormac and I both being drawn here, what's the deal with that?

But I have a feeling that something bad is coming I just don't know when or what it will be. After everything that has happened to me over the years, you become very tuned into things like this.

I washed my plate and left her a note; and decided to go for a walk. After everything that happened; I really needed to clear my head.

Walking down the steps, the air tonight is cool, and clear; a light breeze wafting through the trees, bringing the smell of fall.

As I walked down the street, lights in every house were off, and town was dead silent. I thought about going to the woods and changing, but thought better of it after what happened before with Cormac and Tina.

I got to the diner, of course its closed; I was just about to head back when I saw something flying overhead.

I looked up just as a large dragon flew over the town. What the hell is he doing? I bee lined it for the forest, and as soon as I got in deep enough I tore off some clothes and changed, and launched into the sky. I caught up with him and shot some fire at him.

"What are you doing? You shouldn't be up here!" He just hit me with his tail and flew back down into the forest and I quickly followed him down to the ground. By the time I got back down he finished the change and I quickly changed as well. Stopping in front of him. The look on his face, told me he is furious with me, but he has no right to be.

"Shayla what the hell was that?" Scoffing at that. "I should be asking you that question. I don't know why I'm surprised, you were always like this. I knew one day you would get caught; just don't bring me down with you when that day comes."

I grabbed the clothes I'd shed; pulled them on, and started to leave the forest. He didn't follow for a moment, but then ran to catch up to me. I started to run, but he didn't catch up to me at first.

Once I was out of the trees I was able to run faster.

I got ground on him, but he seemed to be faster and caught up to me in no time.

He once again tried to grab my arm but I moved out of his reach and kept on running.

"Leave me alone Cormac. I don't want to do this anymore. Just leave me alone."

He didn't stop following me, so once we turned down a street, I wheeled on him, making him stop short.

The look I gave him made him take a step back but he still didn't stop. I took a step forward and sucker punched him in the face. He fell back wiping his mouth with his hand, covering it with blood.

"I don't know what you want and I don't care, just leave me alone. Live your own life, and let me live mine."

With that I left him on the ground going back to the house.

For once he didn't try and follow me, and he didn't call after me. I ran back to the house locking it behind me.

There was still no sign of Mia, but I would hope not since its well after ten, I had no idea it was that late. I headed upstairs, and locked my door and windows.

Giving him no access to this place. I just hope that Cormac listens to me and leaves me alone from now on. Lilith is sleeping on the couch, so I just left her and went into my room.

Everything from tonight came crashing down on me and suddenly felt very dirty, I decided to have a long hot shower.

As soon I as turned the hot water on Lilith ran into the bathroom and jumped on to the counter purring.

I don't know why but she always comes into the bathroom, with me when I'm having a shower.

I scratched her head and climbed in. I didn't know what was going on with Cormac tonight, but I can't take it anymore; if he doesn't stop hassling me, I am going to leave and he will never see me again.

I finished up and threw on some clothes to sleep in and with Lilith in hand we collapsed into bed.

I put her on the bed next to me and closed myeyes; I was dead to the world as soon as my eyes closed
