Chapter 45
After about an hour; the kitchen looks like Santa's bakery. I got trees, Santa's reindeer and anything else I could with what I have. Quinn came over once; but just to check on how I'm doing.
He did talk to Lisa though, but I didn't listen in; I could have if I wanted to, but I'm giving them there privacy.
Stepping out with a tray, Cormac is standing at the door looking right at me.
I wanted to turn back, but he saw me; and knows I saw him. Setting the tray down, I opened the door.
"What do you want?" "I just wanted to tell you, that I had nothing to do with Mia's death. I know you think I did, but she was good to me when I first came here; I wouldn't have done anything to her." "So you say. But after everything, you still expect me to believe you? I don't. Now get out of here." He growled at me. "I did nothing to her. And you and I aren't done here." So he keeps threatening me. He walked away, without another word.
Locking the door, I went back to the kitchen, trying not to panic, but I couldn't hide it very well.
"Shayla what is it?" "Cormac was out there. He talked to me. I don't know what to do." Quinn came up to me, and ushered me out of the kitchen. "Just keep going, we won't be long." She nodded, but never took her eyes off of me as we walked out of the kitchen. "What did he say?" Taking a deep breath. "He told me he had nothing to do with Mia's death. But I don't believe him. He said he cared about her, and that she cared for him." "It could be the truth, but we will never know. What matters now, is that he's gone." I nodded, taking a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves.
Sighing, I said. "We need to get back there, we don't have much time before we're to open." He nodded, eyeing me.
"Are you sure you're alright?" I nodded. "Let's just get back to work, we have a shop to open." She nodded, and gave me a piece of cake. "This one didn't turn out right." "Thanks." Taking a bite of it, it might not have turned out right, but it still tastes great. I ate it while I finished up; Lisa put on some Christmas music, it's not my taste, but it's not bad.
"Alright I think we are ready to open." We nodded, and took out what we were working on.
As soon as Quinn hit the open sign, and the first one through the door is Cormac. I don't know why he's doing this; no matter what I tell him, he won't stop.
"I would like half a dozen muffins and three cupcakes please." He's being very civil right now, like he didn't just come here and threaten me.
While he was in here, he didn't so much as look at me, but as he walked out, he gave me a wink and left, whistling. I want to run after him and kill him, but I know that won't do much good now.
"Hey I need to go out for a while, will the two of you be fine for a while?" I nodded. "Sure take your time." He gave me a kiss and left, waving to Lisa as he closed the door.
"Well that was interesting. I was wondering when that was going to happen. You'll be good for him. After his parents died, I thought he would be lost, but then he came here; and found you, I believe you have saved him. So thank you for that. He's a good friend, and I don't want anything to happen to him."
"I won't intentionally do anything to hurt him. I can guarantee."
She smiled and nodded.
"I know you won't. But it may not be your fault that something happens." More people came in, getting there Christmas goodies. Giving us a card here and there, wishing us a merry Christmas, and going on their way. "So what do you have planned for Christmas?" Shrugging she said. "Nothing really. I don't really have any family, so I will be at home hanging."
"No you will not; you will be with me, and we will invite Tina and the three of us will do dinner." "What about Quinn?" "He'll probably be at his aunts and Uncles, but I don't really want to go there, I don't really care for them all that much."
She nodded, agreeing with me.
"You know darling, I'm starting to like her more and more."
I smiled, she's starting to have good taste, but we still have to be weary of others around town, we don't know who might mean us harm, other than Cormac.
After about an hour, Lisa and I are in the back, bringing out more stuff, and the door opened. "Anyone here?" Quinn walked in, and I came out to meet him. "How did everything go with whatever it was you needed to do?" He nodded. "It went well. We did it, and I have a surprise for you, I got us a tree." "You did? Well it will be a proper Christmas this year." He gave me a kiss, and other customers walked in.
Every time the door opens, I think it will be Mia coming in, but I know it will never be her coming in again.
The doorbell rang, making me look up, Quinn's aunt and Uncle walked in, staring at me. His aunt is holding a basket. "How may I help you?" "It's lovely to see you again Shayla." I smiled, trying to keep it together.
"You as well. Would you like to see Quinn? He's just in the back." They nodded, looking through the case, as I walked to the kitchen.
"Your aunt and Uncle are out front." Wiping his hands, he followed me out to the front.
"What can we do for you? It's good to see you." "You as well. It's so different you not being there at the house with us. But to why we're here. These are invites for our Christmas party, I do hope that you both will come. Also one for your friend Lisa. Would you give this to her please?"
I nodded, taking the envelopes from her. Mike looked through the case, and placed his order, which we gladly filled to get them out of here, and Quinn knows it too.
"Thank you both. And I hope we will see you both at the party." We smiled as they walked out of the shop. Once we're sure there gone, I exhaled looking at the red envelopes in my hand.
"That was a little unexpected. So are we going?" He asked putting an arm around my waist. "I guess we should. But I want Lisa and Tina to come, at least we can have a couple people in our corner." He smiled, kissing my head. "Good I was hoping you would say that." Opening his, he cursed when he saw the date. "What? What is it?" "The date, it's on Friday." "Oh, that's fine. I didn't really want to do anything anyways."
"You and I will do something on Saturday then, just the two of us." "It's a deal." Stepping into the back, Lisa is putting the finishing touches on a cake.
Looking over her shoulder, I set her invite down. "Wow that looks amazing." "Thanks. What's that?" "It is an invite to a Christmas party on Friday." "Cool. Sounds like fun, I guess that means a new outfit." "So it would seem."
I said stepping back to my station, but I can feel Quinn and Lisa giving each other a look.
The rest of the day came and went, we cleaned up and locked he place up; we invited Lisa back to the house for some dinner and cake, since for some reason there was one left. Which is very surprising, to say the least.
