Chapter 48
We walked down the hall, I have no idea what I have just gotten myself into; but I'm starting to get a bad feeling about it. Where is he taking me? I'm starting to get that tingling feeling I get whenever something bad is happening.
"Don't worry my love. Nothing will happen to you, I will never let anything happen to you."
"I know you won't." I whispered to her as we walked.
Quinn stopped, taking my hand, giving it a tight squeeze. "Is everything alright?" I nodded. "Yeah. She just said that she won't let anything bad happen to me."
Coming closer to me, his lips just out of reach of mine, his voice a whisper, and breath warm against my face. "And neither will I, you will not come to any harm down here. Come on, we don't have much farther to go, and we won't have much time to search."
Stepping through a door, we walked into a huge library, but it's not an ordinary library; there's also weapons lining the walls, sharp deadly weapons. What is this place? Where has he taken me? "We won't have much time so we have to be quick about this. So let's start our search." He moved away from me, looking around.
I nodded, taking off my shoes, I set them on the table, and gathered up my dress, and I started walking through the room, looking at everything, the walls of books, and walls of weapons. Quinn started pulling out books, while I looked at the weapons hanging on the walls. There are so many, and there are meant to kill us.
"These are all for killing us, all of these deadly weapons. Does Quinn know how to use these?"
"I'm sure he doesn't. Even if he does know, he won't hurt us. You said so yourself. He loves us."
"Is everything alright Shayla?" Quinn came up next to me; putting his arm around my shoulders.
He saw me looking at the wall, knowing what I'm thinking right now. "What's wrong?" I can't talk, I can only look at the weapons.
Holding onto me tighter, he said.
"You're afraid of these aren't you? You're afraid I'll hurt you." That part wasn't a question. "No not that. It's just these are meant to kill us. How many of us could have died by these?"
"I can't tell you that, and I know don't know." Moving so he's in front of me. Taking my face in his hands, he said.
"But I can tell you one thing for sure. You will never get hurt by these ever. None of these can leave this room, do not worry." Moving back, he led me over to a table where he set out some books.
"These are books on your kind. There may be some stuff in these that can help us."
We started reading through them, book after book, hoping for something to help us.
But the only thing that I have found, that you don't need any-thing special to kill us, that anything sharp will do.
Well great, that's good to know.
Closing the book, I stepped back, suddenly wanted to be anywhere but here.
"Just have a seat, and I will put these back; then we will head back up." I nodded, and watched as he put all the books back on the shelves, right where he got them from, while I put my shoes back on.
Thinking about this, I don't know what we're going to do about Cormac now. This was the last thing I had to hope for, to help me; has just gone up in flames.
"We will handle him. He will never hurt you again. Look at everything around you, we will find something to hurt him, and we will get rid of him for good."
She's right, looking at all the weapons on the walls, most of it I won't be able to get any of them easily, but stepping up to one of the swords; I think I could get my hands on one of them, even a few of the daggers, I might be able to get my hands on as well.
"Alright we can head back up now."
Hands settled on my waist again, holding me close. "Okay I agree with that, we'll head back up. I want to get out of here."
He steered me back the way we came; until we're at the door leading to the party.
Stepping through the door, no one seemed to notice us, so we're in the clear, at least for now. Quinn got us each a drink and led me through the house, into the sitting room; where there aren't very many people, a large fire in the fireplace. Lisa and Tina came in after us; sitting across from us.
"Where were you two?" Lisa asked. "We've been around. How about you?" "We've been around. It's an interesting party."
I was about to say something but, Linda and Mike came in the room, smiling; like they were looking for us.
"There you are. We haven't seen you all evening." "Yes sorry. It's a lovely party; one of your best." "Thank you dear. Quinn we need to have a privet word with you." He nodded, and got up leaving the three of us sitting there.
They stepped just outside the room, but I can hear everything there saying.
"We have some bad news. We won't be here for Christmas. I am so sorry." "It's alright Aunt Linda. Actually I was going to ask if I could be with Shayla, and the girls."
"Its fine dear, just so long as you won't be alone on Christmas. So when you leave I have some things for you." "Of course Aunt Linda."
Sitting back, I took a sip of my drink, fixing the tulle of my skirt. "That dress really is perfect on you." Smiling. "Thank you. Quinn got it for me." "He really does have good taste." Taking a deep breathe.
"So the three of us are doing Christmas together." They nodded eagerly. "Perfect. It's settled then." Just then the others came back in; Quinn sat next to me; and Linda and Mike left going out to talk to some more guests.
"Is everything alright?" I asked even though I know everything that they said out there. "Everything's fine. But it is getting late; we should be getting home soon." I nodded; taking another sip of my drink. "So Christmas. It will be the four of us." He said. We all gave him a look; even though I already knew he was going to say something about it.
I smiled giving his hand a tight squeeze.
I'm happy we will be together, and Linda and Mike will be gone. I don't want to be around them, in fact I want to get out of here, right now.
"It's well after midnight, we should get going."
I nodded, and set my glass down, standing and pulling him up with me.
"We have to see Linda before we go." I nodded. The girls stood, saying. "We will get our coats, and meet you at the front door."
We nodded and went our separate ways, them going to the right, and us going to the left.
We found them in the kitchen. "It's getting late, we're going to head home now." They nodded, ushering us back out the door.
"Since we won't be here. I don't know if we will get to see you, before we leave so we're going to give you these now."
Mike grabbed a box; from his office handing it to Quinn. "Merry Christmas to the both of you." He handed us some-thing else and gave us each a hug. "Merry Christmas. To you as well." I said letting go of Linda. We went out to the front where Tina and Lisa are waiting for us.
Tina handed me mine and shook Linda's hand, then Mike's. "Thank you for inviting us. It was a lovely party." "We're happy you could come." Handing them a small box, I noticed there the same one's they gave Quinn and I a party favor of some kind.
Opening the door, it started snowing again; everything is covered. Stepping outside they wished us a merry Christmas, and waited until we climbed in the car; before they went back inside.
Sliding down in my seat, I sighed, now that were on our way back to the house.
"You can just drop us off at my place." Lisa said.
"Okay. Just sit back and relax, and I will have you both home in no time." Smiling, I sighed and leaned my head against the window; closing my eyes.
Listening to the sound of the road under the tires.
