another chapter. thanks for reading.
Someone's calling to me. "Shayla? Oh my god!" Arms wrapped around me, and suddenly I'm moving, as if I'm floating. I try to open my eyes, but I can't open them. There's nothing; I feel as light as a feather. Whoever's holding me, gently set me down; moving as I settled into it.
Sleep my dear. You have to get your strength back.
I can hear her, but I can't respond, the darkness seeps in, choking me; pulling me back under.
The next time I surfaced, I'm lying in my bed, but I don't know how I got here. Looking around, I can barely move; everything hurts, like I was slammed into a wall or something. Lilith is curled up next to my head, her glowing eyes staring at me. She flicked her tail, and moved her head, towards my window. Moving as little as possible, without pain. Quinn is sitting in a chair by my window; fast asleep. How long has he been here? How long have I been out of it? "Shayla?" Suddenly looking up; Quinn's sitting up in the chair, staring at me, his blanket half on the floor.
"What happened to me?" I asked, my throat feel like it's on fire. "What do you remember?" Trying to think back.
"I had a fight with Cormac, I told him to leave; and I started to feel sick, and you told me to go home. Then..... Nothing, there's nothing." He nodded. "A while after you left the shop; I thought I would have heard from you, but I didn't and I just assumed that you were in bed."
He stopped, and walked towards me, sitting on the bed next to me. "I had to shop open for a while, but I started to get worried, so as soon as I started to run low on stuff; I closed and came over here. Mia said she saw you when you came in but nothing after that, since I still have my key I came up, but your door was open. I came in and found you on the floor, out cold. So I put you in bed; and waited."
"How long have I been out?" "About two days. I managed to get you to drink a little, but I couldn't get you to eat anything."
Sitting up, everything hurts; he helped me, by putting another pillow behind me, propping me up. He grabbed a pitcher of water, poured me a glass and handed it to me.
"You need to drink." I nodded, taking one sip, before my Blatter had other plans for me. "I need to you know." It took him a second, but he got it, and helped me up, but that's where it going to stop.
I managed to limp to the bathroom, before everything hit. I came back out, and Quinn is right there outside the door waiting for me. He tried to take my arm, but I stopped him. "I'm fine. I don't need...." I trailed off, everything starting to spin again. He grabbed me, putting an arm around his neck; helping me back to bed.
Once my head hit the pillow; everything stopped spinning.
"What is happening to us? I don't ever want to feel this way again!"
I know exactly how she feels. I have never felt like this in my very long life, and I never want to experience it ever again.
"You need more rest. But first you need to eat something." He left me alone, for a moment; and he mostly closed the door so I can talk to her in a hush tone.
"What are we going to do? Why does this keep happening to us?"
"I don't know. It either has something to do with Cormac being around, or it has something to do with this town, but either way, it's not good."
"I think I know what has to happen. I think we have to leave."
She didn't respond for a moment, I know she's not very happy about what I just told her. I know she doesn't want to leave, but we may not have another choice in this matter.
"If it means that we will be safe, then that is what we have to do."
"It's not the only option you know. We can tell Quinn what we are."
"No that is out of the question. We can't. We don't know how he will react to it. I can't believe you even suggested it. You know what he is."
"Well we might not have another choice in this matter."
Noise made me tense up. "Be quiet he's coming." She settled back down, as Quinn walked in with a tray. Funny I don't remember owning a tray like that.
"Toast and tea. There the easiest thing to get down, when you're not feeling well." Smiling I said. "Thank you. You know I really do appreciate you taking care of me like this." Smiling. "It's nothing. I just want you better. Because if you don't get better, then I think Mia will come up here herself and take care of you." He leaned in closer, and lowered his voice as if she can hear us. "You don't want her up here. Once she is, you will never be able to get rid of her."
I can't help but laugh, but I'm sure he's right. She seems like the type to fret over every little thing that might be wrong with you.
Quinn and I ate breakfast, it was nice him taking care of me. He took the stuff back to the kitchen, and I followed him.
"I have to get to the shop." He said turning back to me. I nodded. "But I don't want you left here alone." "I'll be fine. You go, I will be fine." "Ok. But don't leave. You're not back to full strength yet."
He took something from his pocket and handed it to me. It's a cell phone. After I got here, I destroyed mine, for no good reason; it would appear. "My number is already in it. If you need anything, I want you to call me." I nodded. "Fine, if anything comes up I will call you. Now go. You have some-where you need to be."
"He doesn't like leaving you. But for now, he has to."
"I will call in a while to check in." I nodded, as I walked him to the door. "I look forward to your call. Good luck with Lisa." He smiled and walked down the stairs. I closed the door, and went back to bed, but first I grabbed my book, and collapsed into bed.
"What are we going to do with him?"
"Just tell him. It will make thing a whole lot easier if you do. You know that I'm right, I am always right."
Rolling my eyes. "I don't want to hear it. I will tell him, in my own time. If I tell him at all." I said turning to a fresh sheet, and started drawing.
She didn't talk to me much after that. I think she's a little upset with me. But why does she want me to tell him so bad? I mean yes he has seemed to have accepted what we are, but that could all change, and I don't want it to change, I want things to stay as they are right now. We can't tell him, he's a hunter and no matter what, I know he won't accept that part of us.
Looking down at the page, I had sketched Quinn.
It's a perfect likeness of him as well. "Did you take over, and do this?"
"No, I don't draw. You drew it, I merely watched. It does look an awful lot like him. I wonder why that is."
"I know it does. That's the problem." Closing the book, I lied down in bed, suddenly feeling very tired. I closed my eyes, suddenly too tired to keep them open.
"Sweet dreams my dear."
