   Chapter 39

"Shayla?" Blinking, my eyes, Quinn is in front of me, and we're back at the hotel. But we're not at the front door.

Looking around, we're underground. Undoing my belt; Quinn helped me out of the car. "Where are we?" "We're in the underground parking. Here's your purse, let's get you upstairs." He has a bag in his hand, but it's not one I recognize. Someone opened the elevator for us, but didn't follow us up.

"Your stuff will be safe in the car." he said as the elevator doors open, and he ushered me down the hall, to our room. He locked the door, closed the curtains, and did a thorough sweep of the place before he even remotely started to relax. It's funny, a guy that is trained to kill you, is doing everything in his power to protect you. I didn't realize until Quinn gave me a look, I was laughing, but he doesn't know what I'm laughing at. "Have I said or done something to amuse you?" "It's just funny, you and I are supposed to be mortal enemies. Now here you are doing everything you can to keep me safe."

He's in front of me before I can even blink.

How can he do that?

"Who says we're supposed to be mortal enemies?" "History. Any Were-dragon who has killed, or been killed by hunters." Scoffing.

"Well that was then, and this is now. I don't care what history says. You're not evil Shayla Lightning. Not one single cell of you is evil."

Taking this chance, I kissed him. For a second, he didn't respond, but quickly he recovered and kissed me back, holding me closer to him, deepening the kiss.

Hands at my waist, he started moving us until my back hit the wall, his body is pressed into mine, in every intimate place, touching.

A knock at the door, forced us to break apart, ending the kiss. "I ordered room service." He said against my lips.

He signed for the food, and relocked the door. "When did you order food?" "When you were out of it again. Have a seat."

He said taking the lids off of the trays. Under the lids, steaming hot steaks, baked potatoes, carrots and grilled corn.

"That boy knows how to impress a girl, and her dragon."

"Yes he does."

I whispered under my breath, as I sat down. He put on some music and sat down.

"How's your shoulder?" "It's fine. There's no pain, nothing. I don't understand it. How it couldn't have healed by now." Quinn poured us each a glass of wine, handing me mine, and after everything that has happened; in the last few days, dealing with Quinn's family, then fighting with Cormac, and now this; I'm not sure how much more of this I can take!

"Hey earth to Shayla." Quinn said, snapping his fingers, in front of my face, bringing me back. "Sorry, I was." "Lost in thought again I know. It's fine. Dig in."

After dinner, Quinn grabbed the bag, sitting me on the couch, handing it to me. "What's this?" "Well when I was getting your bag together, you didn't have much in the way of sleep wear. So I bought you this, go ahead open it."

Giving him a look, I pulled out a long silk night gown.

Dark red silk, spaghetti straps, connecting at the back, with black lace at the neck line, and the hem of it, it goes just about to the ground, and it's beautiful, I don't know what to say.

"It's beautiful, thank you. But why are you doing all this for me?"

"Well my mom always told me, when I meet the right girl to take good care of her, to keep her safe; so this is me taking care of you."

"You think I'm the right girl?" I said setting the gown back in the bag, setting it down on the floor, giving him a look.

"Well you could be the right girl." He said giving me a smile.

Suddenly feeling very tired; I started to waver, and Quinn caught me. "You need to sleep. Come on."

He started to help me, but I put a hand on his arm. "I will be fine, just give me a moment."

I started for the bathroom, Quinn gave me the nightgown, and watched me walk to the bathroom. Closing the door; I pulled off my clothes and stepped into the nightgown, it fits me perfectly; tightening the straps; I pulled robe out, got washed and things and looked in the mirror.

"You look very beautiful my dear. You are one lucky girl to have someone like him to protect you."

"I know. I just don't know why he cares. He's supposed to be my enemy; but it's not that way between us."

"He likes you. It's a different time now, he is very different from the other hunters you have encountered over the years."

"I know, but still I don't know what to do, or what to think."

"We will figure it out, we always do."

Sighing, I brushed out my hair and pulled it to the side.

Taking a deep breathe, I walked to the door, and stepped out into the main room; Quinn changed, into something to sleep in, and is making a bed on the couch.

I don't know what time it is, but it feels like it's the middle of the night to me. Stepping up to him, I watched him for a second, then said.

"You know you don't have to sleep on the couch." He looked up at me, smiling.

"No it's fine. You can have the bed to all yourself. You need your sleep."

Then it hit me, when he had the argument with the lady at the front desk before, that's what it was about.

"You wanted a room with two beds. That's why you were so upset." He nodded.

"Yeah, but its fine. Have the bed." Shaking my head. "No. It's big enough that you and I can sleep in the same bed together." I said stepping up to the bed, pulling back the covers, and took off my robe; showing him the nightgown. The red silk, hugging my body. Lucky for me, it doesn't bother the claw marks on my back. "You look beautiful in it. Like a queen." He said, giving me a smile, as he came to the other side, he pulled off his shirt, his muscles moving along with his movements, and turned off the light as he climbed into bed with me, settling down next to me.

"Good night Shayla." "Good night."

Pulling up the covers, he stayed on his side of the bed, and I stayed on my side; my back is to him, but I know he's staring at me, but I didn't turn to look at him, or say anything in case he's already asleep.

Closing my eyes, I felt the bed move, as he moves closer to me,

Quinn's arm holding me close, feeling his warm body against mine, as it all falls away.
