Chapter 39: Unbelievable!

'This should be good...' Gladion chuckled quietly, while I smirked as we watched the creature being unleashed. As the red light faded a red wolf-like Pokemon emerged. It stood hunched over on it's hind legs and bared it's sharp pointy teeth at us. It was a Midnight Lycanroc.

'You okay to keep going, Sneasel?' Gladion asked his Pokemon, who nodded in response and bared its claws at its opponent. 'Alright then, use Shadow Claw!'

(Play song)

Sneasel's claws began to glow, and it launched off its feet towards Lycanroc. It looked like it was gonna be a hit, until:

'Grab it!' L shouted, and Lycanroc grabbed Sneasel by the claws. Shocked, the creature stared at its captor with wide eyes. 'Now use Brick Break!' L commanded again. The wolf slammed it's large paw into Sneasel's jaw, sending it back.

'Sneasel, try and steady yourself!' Gladion commanded, trying to sound as calm as possible. Sneasel performed a backflip in mid-air, and landed on its feet gracefully. 'Good job, now use Dark Pulse!'

Obeying again, the fast creature sent the purple beam towards the target, which hit it smack in the face. Lycanroc stood stunned for a moment, before snapping it's eyes open and letting out an angry howl.

'What? How can it still be standing?!' Gladion yelled, eyes wide from shock.

L chuckled 'Ya see, Lycanroc and I have learnt a thing or two while on our journey. For example, when we grabbed your Sneasel once it got close enough. And just now, when it was able to hold its own against Dark Pulse.' She explained, and Lycanroc bared it's teeth once again. 'Now, our turn. Lycanroc use Rock Slide!'

The red Pokemon let out another howl, summoning rocks to fall out of the sky towards Sneasel.

'Dodge!' Gladion ordered, and Sneasel ran with speed around the rocks. But its timing was a little off as one of them smashed right into its leg. The poor thing let out a painful scream and dug its claws into the ground. 'Sneasel!' Gladion cried, teeth clenched.

'Now use bite!' L smirked and pointed at the injured Pokemon. Lyconroc growled and launched itself at Sneasel, grabbing its arm in its mouth and biting down hard. Sneasel let out another scream and attempted to free itself from the sharp jaws of Lycanroc, but failed.

'Crap. Sneasel free yourself with Shadow Ball!' Gladion yelled, sweat was now forming on his forehead.

'Oh no you don't! Lycanroc use Brick Break!'

Lycanroc flung sneasel into the air, and as it came down, slammed its paw into its stomach. Sneasel fell to the ground, unconscious.

'Sneasel... Good job, have a long rest.' Gladion sighed, and returned the fainted Pokemon to its Pokeball. 'Null, you're up!'

'Finally!' I smirked and jumped onto the field. Mine and Lycanroc's eyes met, and we began growling at each other. Slowly, we began to circle round the field, like two Pyroar fighting over position of leader. We never broke eye contact, and our snarls spelled out 'Get ready for some pain!'

(Gladion POV)

Megan and Lycanroc circled round each other, both prepared to give their all. Neither holding back. All they needed, was the order of their trainers to send them off.

'Lycanroc, Brick Break!'

The creature went at Megan at full force, bringing its paw back to strike her.

'If I wait for the perfect moment then... Now!'

'Null, jump!' she obeyed, and Lycanroc crashed into the ground. 'Now, use Pursuit!'
