Pouring some cream into her coffee, Carrie grabbed the warm mug and quietly opened the door to their backyard. She shut it behind her slowly, careful to make as little noise as possible.

She sat down on the wooden porch swing, leaning against the side arm with her legs pulled up in front of her. She placed the baby monitor down beside her.

Carrie gripped the hot mug with both hands, taking a sip as she let her head rest against the chain holding the swing up.

The sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon, shades of orange and pink scattered through the clouds above it. The birds chirped quietly along with the crickets that were hidden in the flowers and woods. The rusty chain squeaked quietly as she rocked back and forth. Peacefulness filled her backyard. It was only 6:05 in the morning, the rest of the world still sound asleep.

"Care?" She heard her husband's groggy voice as the screen door squeaked open. "What are you doing?"

She smiled, turning towards her husband of four years. "Just having some me time."

"It's only 6 o'clock in the morning, Isaiah probably won't wake up for another hour." He said, approaching her on the swing.

"I know." She grinned, taking a sip of coffee. "It's just so nice and quiet out here. It's my favorite time of the day."

"You come out here often?" He sat his coffee down on the chair arm and took a seat beside her. Carrie pulled her legs closer to her chest to make room for him.

Carrie nodded. "If I wake up early enough."

"I had no idea."

"I know, I try to be as quiet as I can be. I like to sit out here with a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. It's so peaceful, it's a nice time to reflect and get ready for the day." Carrie spoke softly.

She sat up, switching her position so that she was sitting against Mike. He put his arm around her to pull her closer.

"You're right, it really is beautiful out here." He said, caressing her arm lightly. "What time do you come out here?"

"Just whenever I wake up. Usually about 6ish, my body is just trained to wake up that early now." She laughed.

"This explains why I never hear Isaiah wake up." Mike said, picking up the baby monitor.

"No need to wake you up that early too, it's not like you can give him what he wants." She giggled. "I sit out here until he wakes up, then I go get him and feed him and that's usually about when you wake up."

"That sounds like a wonderful start to the day, I might just have to start joining you if you don't mind." He kissed the top of her head and smiled.

"Well the reason I like it so much is because it's the only time of the day I get peace and quiet, so you gotta hush." She laughed, hitting his chest.

"Ma'am yes ma'am!" He saluted her, making her laugh again. He drew her closer against him and let his head rest on top of hers that was leaning on him.

The couple sat in silence, watching the sunrise over their vast land. It was rare that they had time like this together now, so they both cherished it and held each other tight.

Just as the sun began to reach the top of the sky, they heard a faint cry travel through the monitor.

"The little man calls." Carrie sighed, pealing off of her husband.

"Let me get him, stay here. I'll bring him to you." Mike stopped her, kissing her forehead as he stood up off the porch swing.

"Thank you." She smiled, taking the last swig of coffee from her mug. She sat the empty mug down on the ground.

She sat back, letting her eyes flutter close. She took in all the sounds surrounding her as the world began to wake up.

She opened her eyes at the sound of the screen door shutting. She sat up, smiling at the sight of her husband and three month old son.

"Hi baby boy." Carrie cooed, taking him from Mike's arms. Isaiah smiled up at his mom, cooing happily.

Mike sat back down on the swing slowly, careful not to rock it too much and startle his son. Carrie adjusted her shirt and began to feed her son, taking her place back in Mike's arms.

"I love mornings like this." Carrie grinned, looking up at her husband and then back down at her son. Both their blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight.

"I do too." Mike kissed her forehead, gripping her shoulder to pull her closer. "I love our little family."
