"I don't think I can wait much longer! I want to break into these cupcakes now!"

"Uh uh uh, don't touch." Ivey shook her finger in Carrie's face. She grabbed the plate of cupcakes, placing them away from her best friend. "No peaking until party time."

"But-" Carrie protested, only to be cut off.

"No." Ivey said firmly. "You've waited five months, you can wait another hour."

"What's with the pouty face?" Mike approached the two girls in the kitchen, wrapping his arms around Carrie's large stomach.

"Your wife's trying to steal a cupcake." Ivey said, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Why am I not surprised?" Mike rolled his eyes, both of them laughing. "She's been anxious all week."

"I just want to know! It's torturous, especially knowing that you know and I don't." Carrie wined, pointing at Ivey. "Can't you tell me? I promise, we'll act surprised."

"No!" Ivey chuckled. "My lips are sealed."

"Patience is virtue." She grinned slyly, leaving the kitchen with the cupcakes in hand.

"Little one is mighty active in there, huh?" Mike smiled, feeling their child's small kicks against his wife's belly.

"Very." She laughed. "It must know about the party."

"Just think, another hour and we won't have to ever say it again."

"I can't wait." Carrie popped a kiss on his lips and headed out of the kitchen. She walked over to Ivey and Christina who were busy whispering while setting the food out.

As soon as she reached them, they both stopped talking.

"Oh come on!" Carrie threw her hands in the air. "You told Christina? No fair!"

"I'm sorry, I made her." Christina shrugged her shoulders and laughed.

"I hate you guys." Carrie pouted, narrowing her eyes at her best friends.

For the next thirty minutes, Carrie mingled around as they waited for everyone to arrive. She was anxiously counting down the minutes until she could bite into the cupcake and finally find out the gender of the little baby in her belly.

While talking to one of Mike's friends and his wife, Carrie felt Ivey's hand on her arm.

"Are you about ready? I think everyone is here." Ivey asked as Carrie turned around.

"Yes! Let me go find Mike." She smiled. She said goodbye to the group she was talking too and waddled through the crowd until she eyed her husband.

"We're ready." She said eagerly, looping her arm around his. Together, they made their way to the front of their living room where the cupcakes were displayed.

Ivey hit a knife against her champagne glass, getting everyone's attention.

"The moment you've all been waiting for!" She cheered as everyone circled around Carrie and Mike.

"How are we going to do this?" She laughed, handing him a cupcake and picking one herself.

"On three?" Mike held the small vanilla cupcake in his hand, his other hand cupped under in hopes of not making a mess.

Carrie nodded. "1, 2,"

"3." They both said in unison, each taking a large bite into the cupcakes.

Pulling them away from their mouths, small blue cupcake crumbs fell from their hands and filled the center of the cake.

"It's a boy!" Carrie cheered, throwing her hands up in the air. Her smile beamed through the room. They both laughed, cake falling from their mouth as they tried to swallow the large bites they'd taken. Everyone was clapping and cheering around them.

"It's a boy." Mike whispered, pulling his wife into his arms. They embraced, kissing each other softly before pulling away. The rest of the world stood still around them.

She felt Mike place his hands on her belly, a smile on his face as he rested his forehead against hers. Carrie placed her hands on top of Mike's, smiling back even wider.

"This is going to be the best thing we've ever done together."
