Truthfully speaking, I haven't written this foreword after I wrote the poem (and the others, too.) I actually re-read the poem, then try to remember the inspiration. In this one, I actually talked about my bestfriend (the other one), AGAIN, but when I read this piece after a couple of months since it was conjured, which is now (11-24-13), I thought that it applied to all of my bestfriends, and I also thought that maybe it could apply to anyone else, too. The words I chose were quite straightforward, and I almost forgot. This poem was ultimately inspired by Taylor Swift's song "Safe and Sound." I was so hooked the first time I heard the song (I even cried, a lot, ha-ha) that I ACTUALLY BORROWED THE LYRICS. Please don't accuse me of plagiarism or anything related to it. I was just INSPIRED!!!

GONE

I used to be your friend,

When we walked through the same old path

When we held hands through everything

Through joys, and laughs, and smiles

Through weeps, and tears, and cries

And all I could do was protect you

And all I could do was love you

To make you think of me

To make you think that I would always

Always think of you

I used to be a loner,

When I walked a different path

When my hands were damp and pale

From all that's missed, refused, and dreamed

From all that's past, and back, and lost

And all I could do was sigh to it

And all I could do was cry to it

To make me think of you

To make me think that you would always

Always think of me

I used to be your company,

When we talked about our passing lives

When we talked about all that's forever

The days of contemplation and warmth

The days of change and acceptance

And all I could do was face it

And all I could do was hold to it

To make you smile for me

To make you think that I would always

Always smile for you

I used to be a lover,

When both of us seem parched and dry

When both of us seem rough and cold

From suffering, grief, and pain

From agony, torment, and depression

And all I could do was stand

And all I could do was lie

To make you think I am happy

To make you think that I am always

Always happy for you

I used to be the little things,

When you look into normal objects

When you notice and see things differently

Because of all that's left undone

Because of all that's left hanging

And all I could do was nothing

And all you could do was nothing

To make me feel that you are lonely

To make me feel that you have never

Ever been so lonely

But that's when I used to be,

When I walked the path alone

When I held my hands to home

To where the perfect bliss resides

To where the stars won't cease to shine

And all I could do was close my eyes

And all I could do was hold you tight

To make you feel safe and sound

To make you feel that you would never

Ever be alone
