Meanwhile, Echo had wandered into a lively milkshake bar in the city centre. A bell rang as she opened the door, and her nose was hit with the smell of sweet, freshly blended treats. Her eyes glimmered at the bright, colourful decor buzzed, and her ears rang with the hum of conversations and laughter. Posters of creamy milkshakes topped with whipped cream, fruits, and sprinkles decorated the walls.
Her gaze landed on the giant menu above the counter.
"Hmmmmm....." She tapped her chin as she intensely gazed at the board.
"So many yummy treats to choose from!" she squealed, bouncing on the heels of her boots.
"Maybe... the strawberry cake?? Hmmm... Or the Oreo milkshake!! Ooooh, fudge milkshake!! Yes, yes, yes!!" she squealed.
"Hehe! I got it!" she decided, stepping forward to the queue.
But in her excitement, Echo suddenly collided with a boy who stood beside her, their encounter evoking a surprised yelp from both!
"Whoa!" she gasped as she stepped back to regain her balance.
"Uh! Oh, I'm sorry! I wasn't looking!" a tall boy with red hair, which had a fade of black, apologised.
Echo met his gaze. One blue, one red eye... strange. Can humans have eyes like that...?
"Brother, be careful!" another voice chimed in, his tone quiet and timid. Shyly clinging to his oversized jacket sleeves, a shorter boy with blue-black hair peeked out from behind.
Echo paused in thought. Something about these two felt off.
"Are you ok, miss?" the blue-haired boy asked softly, his expression gentle.
"It's no problem, don't worry about it," Echo hesitated to reply, her eyes narrowing as her body remained slightly turned away from the two boys.
It's such a strong aura... Are they... demons, too...?
"Erm... my name's Echo," she introduced herself cautiously, extending a hand to confirm her suspicion.
"Oh! Kyou. And this is my brother, Haru," Kyou went to shake her hand with a smirk that was screaming "f*ck boy" from a mile away... -_-
But the moment their hands touched, a jolt of recognition ran through Echo. That aura—it was too strong to ignore.
"Kyou?" Echo repeated, hand linked with his.
"Amano," he added with a smile.
Echo's hands tingled with the energy of their connection. Magic. She could sense it clearly now, the aura radiating from both boys.
He paused, hand still linked with Echo's...
"Um...?" He hesitated, seeing Echo refuse to let go.
She suddenly jolted Kyou's hand down, forcing him closer.
"Uh!" He gasped with a slight blush, being forced to Echo's level.
"So... what brings demons like you to the human world?" Echo asked, tightening her grip on Kyou's hand.
Kyou's eyes widened, caught off guard by her boldness.
"Heh, so you're one too, huh? This just got interesting," he chuckled, not backing away from her challenge.
"A dangerous coincidence, I'd say. Especially when we both know demons aren't exactly welcome here..." Echo mentioned.
"I wouldn't say we're welcomed anywhere," Kyou returned.
