Charlie and Kata had escaped to a tree fort in the middle of the forest.
"I can't believe those two tricked me into this stupid thing!! I had no idea they'd try and hurt Shadow Moon. That was totally on my 'no don't do. galaxy will absolutely kill me!' list!!" Kata whined, whipping off the blood on her with the water from the river under the tree fort.
"Sounds like you got dragged into it. I was the same. I knew there was something dangerous going on... Whether we're working for them or not, we have to be a step ahead of them! They don't share your plan, Kata. They want to endanger us all!" Charlie explained, casually sitting up in the tree fort.
"So we should kill 'em and get on with our plan to save the world!!" Kata grinned.
"No. We need to keep their power. Like it or not, I don't think we stand a chance at changing anything without them. You have to play their game for now like Galaxy said. But we'll make sure they play fair... and that you get your victory in the end," Charlie explained.
"... but if we follow their plan... won't more people get hurt?" Kata asked.
"I don't know. You haven't exactly explained their plan yet. From what I can tell, they've told you far more than they've told me. So, take me back to the beginning... Just how did you get yourself in this mess?" Charlie asked.
Kata's gaze dropped to the flowing river... triggering a FLASHBACKKKKKK!!!!!!
Kata strolled through the forest in search of the river she knew would guide her back to the underworld. The soft rustling of leaves beneath her feet and the occasional call of distant birds filled the air, blending with the subtle gurgle of the water she sought.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her.
"Uh! Who's there?!" she yelled, abruptly turning with a knife drawn, eyes narrowing as she scanned the dense trees. Nothing.
She huffed and turned back around.
"Greetings, Kata," a voice called out calmly.
"Uh...?" Kata turned her head sharply.
Before her stood two unfamiliar figures, a woman and a man of ordinary appearance. Humans? Yet they emanated a magical aura.
"Who the hell are you?! And how do you know my name?!" Kata growled, pointing her knife directly at them, her posture tensed.
"Calm down. We mean you no harm. My name is Renji. You can call me Ren. This is my sister, Dianna. But don't call her 'De'; she hates that," Renji introduced casually.
"Uh?" Kata blinked, no clue what was happening.
"We're demons, like you. Let us explain. We were working with Eclipse. She mentioned you and your... ambitious motives," Dianna said, a smile curling her lips.
"Uh... so you were working with that liar?! That's all I need to hear. Get lost!" Kata spat, turning to storm forward, her grip tightening on her knife.
"Whoa. Calm down. We're not on her side. We're the ones who killed her," Renji remarked casually.
Kata froze mid-step.
"How'd you manage somethin' like that? Magic's pretty hard to kill," she asked, glaring back at them with a sceptical side-eye.
"Not when you're the one who created said magic," Renji replied with a shrug.
"Uh. What are you saying?!" Kata growled, stepping closer, suspicion flaring in her eyes.
"We're the ones who created Eclipse in the first place," Dianna confirmed smoothly.
