This is based on a post I saw while I was scrolling through the tumblings. I do not own this idea! At all! I wish I did! It's so cute! I exploded from the fluff overload!
"Lance, can you help me with dinner?" Lance's mom yelled. Lance sat up and walked to the kitchen to where his mom was standing. She smiled and some part of Lance felt like crying. Like he hasn't seen that smile in so long.
As his mom was explaining what to do, the floor gave away and Lance fell, his mom's instructions still ringing through his ear. He hit the ground and was wearing his paladin armor. He looked around and saw that he was alone in the dark. Nobody to comfort him. He couldn't hear his mom anymore.
Lance sat up, panting. He looked around and saw that he was back in his room. Not his room from home, but the room on the ship.
He sighed and swung his legs over the side of his bed, slipping on his blue lion slippers. He trudged down the hall until he got to the control room.
He'd been there so many times that he knew how to control the artificial stars.
He went over to a machine and flicked a switch. The stars appeared and Lance was scrolling through them until his found the planet he wished he could be on more than anything.
Earth.
Lance sat on the ground, looking at the planet. He missed everything about earth so much. Except for Iverson. He didn't miss that guy at all.
The door opened and Lance turned his head to see Coran.
"Lance? What're you doing here?" He asked.
"I just wanted to see home again. Sorry if I woke you up. What're you doing here?" Lance asked. Coran sat next to Lance and looked at earth.
"I heard someone walk past my door, so I wanted to see who it was. Are you okay?" Coran asked. Lance looked at the floor.
"It's just... I never signed up to be a paladin. Don't get me wrong, I love being able to help people but I just want to go home. I want to see my family again. I want to go back to school, I want to take up some boring hobbies... I just want to go home." Lance admitted. Coran solemnly nodded.
"I miss my planet too. Altea was a great place. I miss my friends and family. I miss Alfor, who was like a brother to me, and I miss my husband, Klane-"
"You had a husband?" Lance asked. Coran nodded.
"Yes. Me, Klane, and Alfor? We had all been friends since we were kids, but for some reason, Klane and I just... clicked. I miss him so much." Coran said. Lance tilted his head.
"They didn't have homophobia on Altea?" Lance asked.
"What's 'homophobia'?" Coran asked. Lance sighed. He really didn't want to explain it, but he doesn't like it when people keep information from him, so Lance won't keep information from anyone else.
"Well... it's an awful thing my people back on earth have. Not all people, mind you. Just a lot. Homophobia is when people hate on other people who just happen to like the same sex in a romantic way. Like, they hate on boys for having boyfriends, girl for having girlfriends. There's a lot more to homophobia, but I would rather not get into detail. I had to suffer from homophobia when I was back on earth." Lance explained. Coran tugged on his mustache.
"Well, there were a few people who didn't approve of me and Klane's relationship, but we never let that get to us," Coran said. Lance nodded.
"What was he like?" Lance asked.
"Well... He was very kind, funny, silly, and- sorry. I'm just... not used to talking about him. I never got the chance to. Allura already knows about him and I'm fairly certain she's tired of hearing stories. I haven't talked about Klane in a long time." Coran said with a frown. Lance sat up straight.
"Well, I'll listen," Lance said. Coran started talking about how every Friday he and Klane would go the beach, and how whenever Coran had a bad day, Klane would take him out into town and bought him lunch. Coran was telling hundreds of stories and Lance was listening intently. He had never seen Coran so remnant about anything. Besides, Klane sounded like a pretty good guy.
So, it became a thing. Every night after everyone was asleep, Coran and Lance would look at the artificial stars and tell stories of their pasts. Lance told Coran that he was bisexual and that he had a huge crush on Keith (which Coran totally called), Coran told Lance how he and Klane got together, and they got to know each other. Coran was like the family member Lance didn't know he needed until he got it.
Lance's behavior changed, too. He was helping Coran around the castle more often, he was smiling genuinely more often, and he was just more helpful.
Coran had also given Lance some advice on how to get with Keith, and so far, it was working!
One night, Lance was helping Coran set the table when Hunk came in.
"Hey, uh, Lance? Can I ask you something probably really weird?" Hunk asked. Lance shrugged.
"Go for it." He said. Hunk looked up and scratched his neck.
"Well, it's just, you seem more helpful lately, and I was wondering why. I have no problem with it, but I am curious." Hunk admitted.
"Well, my good friend, that was not a question," Lance said. Hunk tilted his head.
"How- How was that not a question?" He asked.
"Well, you didn't end the sentence like it was a question, but I'll answer anyway. I'm more helpful because of reasons. Thank you, and goodnight." Lance said with a dramatic bow.
The real reason was that now he had someone he could talk to about his family. And he really liked that.
Coran was on the deck before Lance was. When Lance entered, he had a goofy smile on his face.
"What's up with that smile?" Coran asked. Lance flopped down next to him and laid on his back.
"Keith is my boyfriend. Like, officially! Your advice worked!" Lance squealed. Coran felt a smile forming.
"I knew it would! When are you going to tell everyone?" Coran asked. Lance sat up.
"I have no idea, man. Probably soon. But until then, let's keep this on the down-low." Lance decided. Coran nodded. The two sat in silence.
"Okay, but nobody is here and I can hardly conTAIN MY EXCITEMENT!" Lance yelled. Lance started ranting on about how it happened and Coran listened.
Then it was silent again.
"Hey, Coran? Did you ever have any kids?" Lance asked. Coran sighed and tugged on his mustache.
"Unfortunately, no. I never did had any kids but if I did, I'd want them to be like you. You're a good kid, Lance. Klane would have liked you." Coran said as he ruffled Lance's hair. Lance couldn't help himself. He hugged Coran tightly.
"Thanks, Coran. Seriously, I don't know what I would do if you weren't here to listen to my ranting. And besides, I like your stories. I don't know how anybody could get tired of hearing them." Lance said. And he meant it. Coran was family, all of the paladins and Allura, are his family.
I may be the family he never imagined, but it was the family he needed.
