Erm... Yeah... I Realize This Counts As Really Really Really Late...

Hi!

So, to get to the point quickly, I was asked way way way back in March to do a rant about haters and hate comments... I sort of forgot about that... So, here goes nothing!

(Yeah... really sorry about that brookelynnxx )

So, the topic of hate comments is brought up a lot in this lovely Wattpad community. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT A LOT.

A hate comment is where someone decides that it is their write to criticize someone's work. It really isn't, but for some reason they believe that it is. What they do, is leave a comment on that person's work, and say hateful things.

Personally, I don't understand why they would do this. I mean, if you don't like a book, what do you do? You stop reading?

But why do they feel the need to tell someone that they didn't like their book?

I don't know about you, but when I write something, I am pretty darn proud of it. I spent my own time on it, time I could spend doing anything else, and I normally spend quite a bit of time on it.

When you get those comments that say that you did a really good job on that part, you feel very, very good about yourself. But when you get that one comment that tells you that they didn't like it, or they thought that it sucked, it really ruins your happy mood.

When you see the comment, you go from cloud nine to the sewer. I have spent a fair amount of time in the sewer. It smells in there. I mean really, it's not pleasant.

So, as you should all know by now, getting a hate comment really, really hurts.

But the thing is, they actually are not that bad. I mean, they will always hurt; theres not even a question about that. But the fact that someone took the time to write your hate comment, clearly shows that you are doing something right.

Another thing to know is, hate comment-ers do it to get a reaction. Normally when you see one, you automatically put your walls up to defend yourself and your work. This will then spiral into a long and involved, stressful comment chain. Seriously.

So, the thing to realize about getting one is, if you don't retaliate in a hateful manner, the odds are that they will just leave you alone!

For example:

HATE COMMENT-ER: I hate your characters. They are all to perfect and make me feel bad about myself.

YOU: Thank you so much! I will have to keep that in mind from now on!

Voila!

And now, your hate comment has turned into some constructive criticism!

The key is, you take someone's hateful words, and turn it into something that will help you improve your skills!

And no, please remember, I am not telling you that you have to do every little thing that people tell you to do, because then, it wouldn't even be your work! And you certainly want it to stay your work.

You just want to try to view the comments in a positive light. I end up doing that almost every single moment of every single day, because some people feel the need to judge people who wear knee high, super conspicuous Halloween socks! (Oh! Happy Halloween by the way!)

You just need to take their words, and turn it into the fuel that keeps driving you forward.

Tally ho y'all!

We gotta keep moving forward, and us buddies got to stick together, don't we? Yes, yes we do.

You need to remember that you always have people that care for you, and love you. Even if it's just one person, that's one more person than you had before. They will have your back, and if no one else if there for you, tell me, because I honestly swear that if there is no one else in your corner, I will lead a raging stampede of cows to come and save you. (I know. I really don't sound intimidating, do I?)

So, just remember that there will always be someone willing to help. There will always be someone willing to charge into battle with you.

You will never be alone.

You all irreplaceable, and the whole world should know this.

SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!!! YOU ARE FABULOUS. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. YOU ARE WORTH IT. YOU CAN DO ANYTHING. YOU ARE SMART. YOU ARE FUNNY. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.

IF YOU'RE WEIRD, GET WEIRD.

IF YOU'RE STRANGE, GET STRANGE.

IF YOU'RE GEEKY, GEEK OUT.

YOU ARE FABULOUS. DON'T LET ANYONE DULL YOUR SPARKLE, BECAUSE YOU ARE THE BRIGHTEST BLOODY STAR IN THE UNIVERSE.

I know that I'm just some random stranger saying this to you, and I know that most of you will probably take absolutely nothing from this, but for those people who will read this, and pay attention to this, I want you to know that all of this has worked for me.

If you get a hate comment, use it as the fuel that gets you up in the morning. You have a purpose, and if someone feels the need to discourage that purpose, shove it right back at them!

I know that I know at most two of the people reading this in real life, but I just want to say, if you ever need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to rant to, or even just someone to tell you a corny joke because you had a bad day, I am here. I am here to help you for as long as you possibly need it.

I will help you get through with whatever you need to get through.

I am here.

And I will always be here.

Just remember:

YOU ARE THE BRIGHTEST BLOODY STAR IN THIS UNIVERSE, DON'T LET ANYONE DULL YOUR SHINE.

Let all that hate you receive roll off you like raindrops hitting your steel plated umbrella.

And yes, I know that this is a lot easier said than done, but I am confident that you are able to be confident in yourself.

You are fabulous. Shout it from the rooftops.
