"Are you okay?" I asked Vlad as I held onto him tightly trying to lead him down the tunnel Matt was leading us down.

"I told you, this is not how I die." He answered as he tried to grin at me.

"Good because I'm not ready to watch you die," I told him as I tried to keep him standing upright.

Every step forward he took seemed to put another ten pounds on his shoulders.

"This way," Matt said as he lead us right down another tunnel.

I did not question Matt I trusted that he would find the way out, but Vlad was not that trusting.

"Where are we?" He asked as he looked around trying to find his way out still not entirely trusting us.

"Access tunnels. The city was built on a network of these, most of them sealed up years ago." Matt answered as he continued to lead us forward.

Matt stopped to listen to something, and I focused back to Vlad who had lost almost all of his color.

"Vlad," I said to him in a hushed voice.

"Hum..." He answered but could not bring his head up to look at me.

"I'm sorry," I said to him as I tried to hold back my tears from the guilt I was feeling.

We made eye contact for a second it looked like he was about to say something but no words came out. Instead, he just shook his head and looked back to his feet.

"All right, we have to keep moving. Find a way to the street." Matt said as he came over and tried to help me carry Vlad over to the exit.

Vlad coughed up more blood before he started panting again. Matt pushed him down against the wall. I was about to yell at him when there was a flash of light. I was able to get out of the way at the last moment before gunfire rang out in the tunnel. I looked over as Matt flipped out of the way of the bullets. As he did, he threw one of his sticks hitting one guy in the face. He fell back dropping his gun with a loud thud. I quickly ran over and grabbed the gun.

One of the others tried to shoot at Matt who managed to grab the gun and push it out of the way just as it got a shot off. He pulled the gun out of his hand and used the end of it to smack him in the face. The man's nose broke as easy as snapping a twig before he fell to the ground. A third guy was walking up behind Matt. His gun pointed, and he was ready to fire. There was no way Matt would have enough time to get out of the way. I quickly lifted my gun and shot the third man. The bullet from the large riffle went right through him as he fell to the ground.

"What did you do?" Matt yelled as he turned around to look at the man who was about to put a bullet into him.

"I shot him in the shoulder; he'll be fine," I answered as I handed Vlad the gun and helped him stand up.

"You trust him with that?" Matt asked me as he pointed to the gun I had just handed Vlad.

"I trust him with my life," I answered as I looked at Vlad who for the first time all night has looked at me.

"I could never hurt her, ever." He answered as he pushed a piece of hair behind my ear.

"You believe that bullshit," Matt said to me as he removed the bullets from all of the guns. "He's a criminal."

"A criminal can still fall in love," Vlad answered before I could.

I could not help but feel as if something was wrong. He was not opposed to pda, but he never talked about his feelings. Not in front of anyone who wasn't me.
