The bell had finally rung. School was over and now I had to head to work. I was not looking forward to it but we are barely getting by with the bills as is so I figured I would help Darry and Sodapop out. I headed to my locker to get my books that I needed for my homework. I then headed to the restroom real quick and changed into my work uniform and ran out of the school where I ran into Pony. "Heading home?" I asked him. "Yeah. I'll see you later." Ponyboy said "Let Darry know I might be home late. I'm not sure what time I have to work until." I said. "Yeah I'll let him know." Pony said "Thanks." I said and hugged him and ran off to work. I'm just glad it wasn't too far from the school. I ran in and clocked in and got there in time for my 3:30 shift. "Nice job making it on time." My fellow co worker Katie said. "I was only late once." I said "Well don't make it three or you'll get the boot." Katie said. "I know." I said. "Oh don't forget you have to work until closing tonight and tomorrow." Katie said "Great." I said sarcastically. "Hey at least tomorrow is a Friday and payday." Katie said with a laugh. "Yeah I guess." I said Just then the dinner rush started to come in. This is going to be a long night. To spare you the boring details I served some cocky socs', some middle class people and some greasers. To think my day couldn't get any worse my ex decided to stroll in. I turned around quickly and faced Katie. "What's wrong?" She asked looking at my worried face. "See that guy over there?" I say pointing discreetly. "Yeah?" She asked confused. "That's my ex boyfriend. Can you take his table?" I begged her. "Yeah sure, but you owe me." Katie said. "I'll work a double next Saturday. I'll work my shift and yours." I said "Deal." She said and went to seat my ex boyfriend Daxtyn Conners.

(Courtney's ex) "Hi I'm Katie. I'll be your waitress." I heard as Katie served Daxtyn. I then headed over to a table with some Soc. "Would you like anything else?" I asked as I handed them the bill. "Yeah why don't you come have some fun with us?" A guy said with a laugh and slapped my butt. "Please pay your bill and leave." I said and walked away. I finished up one more table and looked at the clock and clocked out for my break. I then decided to have the chef make me a veggie burrito and while I was waiting I decided to call home.
Darry's POV Soda and I both just got back from work and headed inside. I looked around and saw Pony in his room but didn't see Courtney. "Hey Pony?" I called "Yeah?" Ponyboy asked coming into the living room. "Where's Courtney?" I asked Ponyboy as I sat down in the chair in the living room. Just as Pony was about to answer the phone rang. Pony answered it and looked at me. "Yeah he's right here." Pony said and looked at me. "It's Courtney." Pony said and headed back off to his room. "Hello?" I said "Hey Darry. I just thought I would remind ya that I'm working and I'll be home late." Courtney said "How late?" I asked "I have to work until closing at the diner tonight and tomorrow after school. I get done at 11:00. But I'll probably be home by 11:30 if I walk since all the buses are done by like 8." Courtney said "No don't walk. Hold on." I said and gestures for Soda to give me a pencil and paper. He got up from the couch and gave them to me. "What's the address. I'll pick you up." I said. I didn't like the idea of Courtney walking home alone at night. "Okay got it. I'll see ya then. Bye." I said and hung up. "Who was that?" Soda asked "Courtney. I have to pick her up from work at 11:00." I said "Isn't she working pretty late? I mean she's workin later than us." Sodapop said "Yeah I know." I said and sat down to watch Mickey with Sodapop until I had to get Courtney.
Courtney's POV After I hung up the phone with Darry my burrito was ready. I ate it and then clocked in for my shift again. I looked to see it was only 8pm. Three more hours to go. The late comers started coming in around 8:30pm and then after that the hours just flew by. I finished my last table at 10:50pm and collected my tips from that last table and headed to the restroom to clean up and came back out and clocked out. "Katie! I'm leaving." I said "Okay see ya tomorrow! Same time?" Katie asked "Yeah since school doesn't let out until 3." I said "See ya then." Katie said and I headed outside and saw my brother's car. "Hey kiddo." Darry said as I got in. "Hey." I said "I didn't know you had a job?" Darry said "Yeah well I just got it a few weeks ago and I didn't say much about it on the way to school. I wanted to see if it would last and it has so far. I have to work the same time tomorrow." I said "Okay. I'll pick ya up again seeing as I don't want you walking home late at night." Darry said. "I've done it before." I said "I know and that was before I knew you had it but I would prefer that you call me or Soda if you are going to work a late shift like this." Darry said "Okay I promise I'll call if I work a late shift." I say "Good." Darry said and just like that we were home. I headed inside and got a shower and just headed to my room to do my homework which wasn't much and then headed to bed.
