The Curtis Sister

Chapter 23

Darry's POV
I can't believe it. My little sister is in the hospital room again. Why? Why would she do this? How could I be so blind? She was hurting and I couldn't see it. I was too busy trying to keep a roof over our heads and paying the bills. God I feel like such a terrible older brother.

Ponyboy's POV
Why would my older sister do this? Doesn't she realize how much we need her. She can't die. She just can't. Please don't let my older sister die. I need her. She's always there for me, just like Soda. Don't take my older sister away.

Sodapop's POV
I looked and Darry and Ponyboy. They probably are thinking the same thing I am? Why would she do this? Why couldn't she just talk to us?
"You doing okay Soda?" Ponyboy asked me. I wiped my tears.
"Y-Yeah. I'm fine. Pony why don't you call the guys and tell them where we are. T-they're probably wondering why we aren't home." I said almost choking on my tears. I can feel myself getting ready to cry again.
"Okay. Let me know what the doctor says in case I miss it." Ponyboy said and I nodded.
I gave him some change to use the payphone.
About 15 minutes later Pony came back.
"Did I miss anything?" Ponyboy asked.
"No." I said just as a doctor walked up and Dally, Johnny and Two-bit ran in.
"What's going on?!" Johnny said when he saw the tears in our eyes.
"I'm guessing you're all here for Courtney Curtis?" The doctor asked us.
"How is she?" Darry asked nervously.
"Let's just say she's lucky you found her when you did. If you had found her any later she would have bled to death." The doctor said.
"Will she be alright?" Dally asked.
"Yes she will be fine." The doctor said.
"What about the baby?" I asked.
"I don't know how but the baby survived. I recommend she either get counseling or someone constantly watching her. Next time she tries this she probably won't be so lucky." The doctor said.
"Well it won't happen again." Pony said annoyed with the doctor.
"Can we see her?" Darry asked.
"Yes, but not all at once." The doctor said.
"You guys go we'll wait out here." Two-bit said.
Darry, Pony and I then followed the doctor who stopped us before we went into her room.
"I'm warning you, you may not like what you see." The doctor said and lead us into the room.
I couldn't hold my tears in and nearly collapsed. Darry had to hold me from falling and Pony just started balling his eyes out. Darry tried to remain strong but I could tell he was ready to break. Our sister laid in a hospital bed with two bandages wrapped around her wrists. Her face was so pale.
"Why?!" I yelled. "Why would you do this Courtney?!" I yelled while Darry held me.
"Soda." Pony said putting his hand on my shoulder as Darry released me.
"Don't Soda me! Why would she do this? Why couldn't she talk to someone?! Why couldn't she talk to me?! I'm her twin brother for crying out loud! We're supposed to tell each other everything." I said and fell to the floor.
"It'll be okay little buddy. It'll be okay." Darry said crying as he held me.
"No it won't! I can't lose her! I can't lose my sister!" I yelled.
"She's our sister too. We won't lose her Soda." Ponyboy said.
We then heard a groan and all three of us rushed over to Courtney's bed.
