Why am I snapping at him? Classic Naylor that's why, she thought.
I want there to be more than work in my life. God, she was finally admitting to herself that it was him she wanted in her life.
She'd sat in her lonely house after she was discharged. No one there. No reason for Fletch to come and see her everyday, hold her hand, allow her to hope for something more.
So she decided to go back to work, at least she'd see him there. She'd picked up the phone numerous times to call him but then just sent a simple text
Hi Fletch
I'm coming back to work on Monday
Jac
No kiss. No 'love Jac'
And so she'd returned and they didn't know how to be around one another which was ripping her heart out.
The rest of the week carried on pretty much in that way. Slightly more banter if she ventured out onto the ward but nothing compared to their old verbal sparring.
She got home on Friday night. Shattered and alone again. She decided to run herself a bath and had just sunk down into the fragrant bubbles when her phone rang. She managed to scramble to it just in time for her heart to skip a beat when she saw Fletch's name and stupid picture appear on caller id
"Hi Fletch
Listen I'm in the bath, I'm getting the phone all wet. Is it important, can I ring you back?"
Fletch nearly choked. Jac in a hot steamy bath, Jac surrounded by bubbles, Jac getting the phone wet. Lucky phone.
Grow up Fletcher
"Oh sorry. Yeah nothing urgent but ring me when you're done in the bath" more images filled his head
"Ok. Speak to you later"
"Bye"
Why is Fletch ringing me on a Friday night she pondered as she laid back in the bath
They'd hardly spoken all week. What could he want - surely it wasn't about work. Jac took her time in the bath. This bubble bath was expensive stuff and not only did she not want to waste it she needed time to psych herself up to ringing Fletch back.
