"I need to go home and relieve Serena and Sacha" Jac said in the evening "you should go home and rest Julia. They won't be waking him up until tomorrow"
"I wish we'd met in different circumstances but I am pleased that I've met the woman who has been his only topic of conversation for nearly a year"
Jac smiled "come on let's go" Jac led her out
When she got back to Fletch's she took a deep breath before opening the door
"Hello?"
"Jac" Sacha greeted her "how is he"
"No change. How's everything here?"
"The kids know he's in hospital. I've been as vague as possible"
"Thanks"
She entered the living room. Theo was asleep on Serena and the others were watching a film
"Hey" Jac said softly
Everyone turned to her and she was met with a chorus of "How's Dad?" and "how's Fletch?" From Emma and Serena.
"He's still asleep at the moment" she caught Serena's eye
"When can we see him?" asked Evie
"Oh I'm not sure sweetheart but as soon as you can I will take you there myself"
"Thanks Jac" Evie said
It was like having a mum again she thought.
"Come on little man. Bedtime" Serena took Theo upstairs to bed
"Do you want one of us to stay?" Sacha asked
"Oh Sacha would you. If anything happened in the middle of the night I don't fancy bundling 5 sleepy kids into the Fletch wagon"
"I'll take the sofa, you can have Fletch's bed."
"Absolutely not"
"Absolutely yes. Sacha if you sleep on there, you won't be able to move in the morning"
"You're right. I hate it when you're right"
She smiled, that's what Fletch says "I'll go and get the blankets"
Jac entered Fletch's bedroom . "This is going to be our room soon so you better get well quickly Fletcher " she said out loud
"What do you mean our room?" Serena stood. behind her. Jac couldn't be bothered to fight
"He asked me to marry him this morning"
Serena was momentarily speechless . Fletch the joker, Fletch the nurse for god sake and the ice queen herself . But she had eyes, she'd watched them dance around each other for months just like the rest of the hospital.
"I take it you said yes"
Jac nodded "god he might not even remember asking me"
"Let's not jump the gun Jac" she gently touched her arm
"Now I gather Sacha is staying and there's a rather large glass of Shiraz and a Skype call to Bernie waiting for me at home so I'm going to get off now"
"Thanks Serena " Jac said sincerely
"Happy to help. I'll check in tomorrow"
The two women had clearly decided that Fletch was worth calling a truce for.
