"Ms Naylor. Jac, I didn't realise you were back"
"Well here I am"
"Right, yes. Do you know where Fletch is?"
"Sorry I don't. Need to leave a message?"
"No I'll catch him later" she turned to leave "are you and Fletch..."
"Yes Abigail me and Fletch are"
The woman gave Jac a genuine smile
"I'm pleased for you both Jac. I really am. We didn't have a chance once you came back. It's so obvious he loves you"
It didn't happen often but Jac was speechless
"We were only ever a distraction for him because he didn't know if you were coming back or not. Don't hurt him Jac"
Jac was again speechless as Abigail walked out. Within seconds Fletch entered
"Oh hi" he said bending to kiss her cheek
"what are you doing here?"
"You sound nervous Fletch - I take it you saw Abigail leaving"
Fletch reddened "Erm yeah. Was it really awkward babe?"
"Mmm just a bit weird. She asked if we were together, told me she was pleased for us and that you and her would never have worked once I was back, that she was a distraction and it was obvious that you loved me"
Jac sat back to observe Fletch's face
He contemplated her words before replying
"Well it's true she was a distraction. I was really in a mess when you were away but even worse when you didn't come back when you said. You didn't text or anything " he smiled weakly "She did all the running, she made me feel wanted but she's right I was still in love with you"
"She warned me not to hurt you"
Fletch raised his eyebrows in surprise. He squatted down next her and took her hands in his
"But you're not going to hurt me are you Jac?"
"You really have to ask Fletch? Apart from Emma you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you, I'm not gonna hurt you" she kissed his knuckles "ok?"
He nodded and grinned back at her
"So I got your text. Pizza Express sounds like a plan. Are we telling the kids why they're suddenly going for tea together?"
"What do you think?"
"I think, given our record of not admitting things, we should tell them. Or at least wait for them to ask and be honest when they do" said Fletch
"I'll book for 7.00pm?"
"Great we'll meet you there then"
"Ok. I'd better go and collect Emma and see how her first day went" she brushed his lips with her own "see you later"
"Yeah see you later"
Fletch wondered about Abigail's comments to Jac
"What's she playing at" he said to himself.
