Darling? Fletch smirked to himself- he got away with that without her killing him.'
Darling when referring to Jac had a nice feel to it. Imagine if he was saying it for real.
They finished their drinks and lunch in companionable silence. Every so often petting Mac.
They spent another couple of hours on the beach and walked back to the car eating ice cream
"I've had a really nice day. Thanks Fletch"
His heart contracted
"Well thank you for coming. Mac here is a big fan I think"
As am I he thought
"So I've still got him til tomorrow night so do you fancy the park tomorrow?" He asked nervously
Jac smiled "I'd love to . Let me make a picnic"
She bent down to cuddle Mac "don't worry I won't forget you. I'll get you some treats Mr"
Fletch hardly recognised this relaxed, playful woman before him
Before they knew it they were back at Jac's house
"Thanks again for a lovely day" she paused "you can come in for a coffee if you want" she said as breezily as she could
"Yeah why not. Just a quick cuppa. I'd better get him back to his own bed"
Jac was relieved he hadn't rejected her offer and welcomed them in. She opened the French doors in the dining room and let Mac out in the garden whilst they drank coffee on the small sofa facing outside. Mac bounded round the garden exploring his new territory.
"I think he'll sleep well tonight" Jac commented
"He'd better" said Fletch "He has a bed and more cuddly toys than Ella. He has special
calming drops to add to his special milk he has before bed. He's a bit of a pampered pooch but I think we've tired the little git out today"
"It's been really great Fletch but what made you ask me along"
Because I want to spend every waking moment with you? - hmm maybe not
"Well my kids were at their grans, I knew Jonny still had Emma so I thought you might be at a loose end. And I didn't want to look after Mac on my own he added"
"Oh I see? OK"
"So what time shall I come round tomorrow"
"Make it 11. That will give me plenty of time to make sandwiches Any requests?"
"Anything but marmite or jam"
She chuckled "I think even I can manage that" she replied
"Right" said Fletch getting up "we'd better be off. Mac" Fletch called "come on boy"
"Good to see he takes absolutely no notice of you whatsoever" Jac smiled
"Mac, here boy. Come on" Mac immediately raced in towards Jac
"Good boy" she said enthusiastically "good boy" she cuddled him and he nuzzled his head into her shoulder. She smiled up at Fletch
Great he thought, I'm jealous of a dog
