Changes I could not make

You asked me to fly with you, and so I grew wings to soar

You then asked me to swim with you, and I grew fins

You asked me to run with you and so I grew legs

But no matter what I did, it was never enough

You asked me to climb new peaks, to see you in new ways

You asked me for my heart, and as I gave it to you, it was still not enough

You asked me to give you hours of my day, soon more than days I had left

You wanted the stars, and as I gave them to you, you wanted  the moon

I grabbed the moon only to see you wanted the sun.

Nothing I did was enough, nothing I did would make you happy

All I asked for, was to be the first thought in your mind, for once

And yet you looked at me with a sad look, as you said 'There are changes I cannot make'

And when I finally found that what needed to change, was not me, but you.

I lost my wings, my fins, my legs.

Soon I became nothing but a thought in your mind, seen by none, even the blind.
