Heroes

Never meet your heroes, they become empty pedestals

Words without feeling, Wounds that will find healing

Admire and dream, all for what they seem

But there is a harsher truth to what you may deem

Have them guide you, motivate you, drive you

But do not meet them, they may shock you

They may insult you and even mock you

Because heroes are human too, flaws and all

But what would they say to ears, to walls

Even if they are kind, and meek

There will always be more that you can seek

Be your own hero, live your own story

For a violent world, it may become less gory

Write your own story, write your truth

Will you be a martyr, detective, or sleuth ?
