Notifications had been blowing up my phone all day long and on my drive back home, it only seemed to become more frequent.

It's probably TMZ or Alex or both.

Well, that could wait. I needed a shower, ASAP.

Double, steel remote control gates greeted me. Pulling up in the driveway, I gently turned the key in the ignition and killed the engine. Jumping out of my car, I was met by the sweet smell of citrus, compliments of the lemon and orange trees that surrounded the house.

The house was a 2 storey museum of glass and modesty. The grey paint on the walls emphasised every inch of the house that wasn't completely glass. The driveway was lined with an array of flowers that oozed welcome.

Everytime that I've been here, I always found myself thinking that the house mimicked the Cullen's house from twilight but instead of it being wood and glass in the middle of a cold and gloomy forest with no traces of civilization, imagine glass and concrete situated in a small high end neighborhood.

I entered the house and reset the insanely complicated alarm system. The house was quiet as I walked through the open plan lounge and kitchen. I walked over to the fridge to grab a bottle of water.

I knew my mother always kept that around.

I was startled by a cheerful voice that came from behind me, " Katherine! "

I nearly did one of those surprised, water out the nostrils and mouth moment, like in the movies. I turned to find a familiar middle aged woman with a basket of laundry in hand. Her smile was huge and genuine.

"Selma! How are you?" Selma had been a trusted and loyal housekeeper to my mother for the past 5 years.

"I'm good. Even better now that you're here," she announced in her Hispanic accent as she came over to hug me. She was like a second mother to me every time I came to visit. We got along pretty good. She helped me improve on my Spanish and now, I could actually have a conversation with her.

Since my roots failed me, I found another way.

"Aww, it's great to see you to although I won't be here for long. Just until I get my own place," I told her. She looked disappointed for a beat but cheered up almost immediately.

"You're room is all ready for you. Closet set, bathroom stocked," she announced.

"Thank you so much."

"Should I make you something to eat?"

"No thank you. I actually just want to take a shower and relax. I'll put something together later. Why don't you head home early," I told her.

Sel was never one to argue especially when things benefited her, I taught her that, so she just shot me a grateful smile and nodded.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Sel," I hugged her before she went off.

I headed upstairs towards my room. Light lavender paint married my room. A huge walk in closet that housed my essentials, from shoes, jewelry and makeup to clothes and handbags, was on my left. On my right was my queen size bed and bathroom. Glass patio doors opened onto a balcony that overlooked the well maintained backyard.

Near the patio door was a bookshelf and an L-shaped couch in which I've fallen asleep in many times, while visiting my mother, while being captivated by a good read. A flat screen TV, a good couple inches over the standard size, was mounted on the wall across my bed.

I stripped out of my clothes and kicked off my heels and immediately headed to the bathroom for a long over due shower. After nearly 40 minutes I came out dressed in a black satin robe and collapsed on my bed. It's been a long and exhausting day.
