Another week passes, more patients walking in and out of St Grace, more lives lost on a cold, hard, surgical table, more first year residents getting on my highly hormonal nerves, more morning sickness and more lashing out at Tyler for always forgetting where his car keys are. All this and more but still no sign of what mattered most to Tyler and I right now, Theo.

Alex was on his way to see us with an update but we were warned in advance that its nothing progressive. A knock on the door of the residents lounge got Tyler and I to our feet. Alex was dressed in his unusual casual wear and Christopher accompanied him in his cargo pants and black t-shirt. We greeted each other with the usual hug, Tyler with a handshake before he and Chris started with the news.

"Is it bad?" I asked skeptically.

"Not bad but not particularly good," Chris replied.

"Okay?" Tyler urged.

"So I found out that Theo was released about a year and a half ago on parole. He spent about a month at a health care institution, as a condition of his parole. He managed to convince them he's fine so he got out with prescription meds. As for the events management company, it's owned by a friend of his. That's how he got the job as the manager and also how he got into contact with your mum. He did his research, Kate. He knew where you are and how to get to you. He consciously infiltrated your life and he most definitely has an endgame. We just need to figure it out before he gets his chance."

Usually, I wouldn't be surprised by anything regarding Theo but this time around, blame pregnancy if you must, I felt panicked. Extremely panicked, almost to the point of a panic attack. I felt my chest tightening and my breathing accelerating. Being pregnant puts a whole new importance to this situation. Before, I wouldn't care what would happen next. I wouldn't care what would happen to me but now my baby's involved and, as cliche as this might sound, but I will do anything and everything in my power to protect my child.

I must've been turning blue in the face or something extreme like that because Tyler looked like he was ready to catch me at any minute.

"Kate?" Alex said at the same time that Tyler said, "Specs?"

"Hmm?" I responded, trying to hide the panic in my voice.

"You okay?" Alex asked.

Those two words had such a short answer but it felt like it would take so much energy out of me to answer.

I shook my head up and down and whispered, almost short of breath, "I need some air," and speed walked out of the room.

A burning sensation started in my chest, sending me straight into the nearest restrooms to empty out my stomach contents. Exiting the stall, I bumped into Nic, my highly inconvenient luck.

"Kate? Are you okay?" Concern plastered her face.

My mind was stuck between answering and concentrating on the spinning sensation in my head.

I shook my head up and down rapidly in response.

"You were just throwing up, you're not okay. Let me check you out."

I gathered up all the energy I had left and answered, "Nic, I'm okay. I think my milkshake was bad." I lied once again.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, Nic," I forced a smile, "I'm just gonna get some air," I added.

"Okay," she replied, seeming only half convinced. I disappeared from site as quick as lightning, heading back out into the corridors, making my way to the exit.
