Kate
Alex was right, I might've been coming down with something. Today was worse than yesterday and the days before. My stomach couldn't even handle the thought of breakfast so I skipped it. In the ER, the mere sight of blood had me feeling nauseous and I wasn't a weak stomach. A constant stabbing pain was present in the back of my head and no matter how much sleep I got the previous night, I was fatigued.
During lunch, I filled my tray with a salad and a bottle of water. I had no appetite but if I didn't want to faint of hunger on my job then I had to put something in my system. One by one, I was joined by my fellow residents. Tyler took his seat next to me, gently nudging my shoulder as he did. Hazel was ranting on how pissed off Dr Callaghan was today causing me to blank out and absentmindedly pick at my salad, not ingesting anything. I sipped on my water while everyone else dug into their lunch. A whiff of something sweet and something warm and meaty caught my nose and I knew I was done for.
The worst part of being sick was that the tiniest of things could upset you to your core and turn your moods to shit. Without warning, I got up from the table and ran to the nearest restrooms. Just my luck that the stall furthest from the door was the only one available. I choked and gaged until my ribs ached but my troubles went in vain. This is what I get for not having anything in my system, nausea without any actual throwing up, the worst type. It just causes more pain in your body and more annoyance coursing through your veins.
"Specs?" I hear Tyler call out not a minute after I enter the stall.
"You shouldn't be in here," I yell back and hear my voice echo off of the walls.
He really shouldn't for two reasons. First, this was the ladies restroom and second, I didn't want him to see me at my worst. A puking, sniffing mess. I grabbed a bunch of tissue and pulled the chain before exiting the stall. Tyler's leaning against the vanity sinks, studying me and completely ignoring the glares of my fellow female co-workers.
"You really shouldn't be in here," I repeat as I walk over to splash cold water on my face and rinse the disgusting taste from my mouth.
"You seriously think I care about that right now? You sure you should be at work? You look awful," he said.
"Gee, thanks," I roll my eyes and use the thick bundle of tissue to dry my face.
"You know what I mean. Why don't you go home?"
"I don't feel as bad as I look." I lied.
Tyler didn't seem to be buying it but chose not to say anything. Rather, he placed his hand on the small of my back and led us back to the table.
"You okay?" Javi asked as we sat down. I noticed the slice of pizza in his hand and glared at him with a look that could kill.
"That's disgusting," I said, refering to his chicken and pineapple pizza and recognising the smell that triggered my sudden urge to puke.
"What? This?" He shoved the piece in my face with a smirk.
I smacked his hand away and tried to control my gag reflex towards the smell. A sharp cramp shot through my stomach and I gasped in a deep breath.
Hazel, on the other side of me, seemed to notice and barely whispered, "looks like it's that time of the month."
Oh fuck no. At this rate I was convinced I'd be dead by the end of the week. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration but being sick and on your period is a recipe for disaster in my books. I was just praying that Hazel was wrong, she has to be. My cycle was consistent, popping up like clockwork during the middle of every month and seeing as we were just finishing the 1st week, I'd say I was safe for a good couple of more days.

Romance"You were worried about me, Specs?" He smirked. "No, Tyler. I hoped that someone cut up your corpse and fed it to paranas. Obviously I was, you idiot! I'm a doctor. Worrying about people is kind of programmed into my system. It's a curse if you ask...
