Tyler
I paced outside in the hallway for a while after slamming the door shut behind me.
I should be mad, fuming even after what she just did but the only thing I really felt was concern.
Sure she basically just broke up with me and brought up the one thing she knew would hurt me but I wasn't angry at her for that. Something was wrong and she wasn't telling me what but I had to find out one way or another.
I stopped pacing and sat down on the floor in front of her door. Now was probably a good time to let Alex know that I found her. I dialled his number.
"Hey, man," I said into the receiver when he picked up.
"I just circled 5 blocks around city hall and her apartment 3 times."
"I found her. She's back at her apartment," I informed him.
I heard him sigh in relief. "Did she atleast have an explanation?"
"Actually, she kicked me out of the apartment. She's not saying anything but I know something's off."
"I'll be there in 10," he said and sounded on the move already.
"Don't bother. If I know her well, she's probably passed out right now. Tomorrow morning would be best."
"Fine. Where are you now?"
"Outside her door. You think she'll file a B and E charge against me if I go in once she's asleep?"
"Probably not. She hates police stations. I'm sure we both know why."
Of course I did. I'd never forget it.
"Yeah. I'll let you know if anything changes before tommorow morning."
"Thanks, Tyler."
"No problem, man," I replied and cut the call.
I shot Dimitri a quick text letting him know that Kate's fine and to inform the rest. I sat out in the hallway for around 30 minutes or so until I was almost positive that she'd passed out. I punched in her security code and tip toed into the apartment as quietly as I could. Her room door was cracked open slightly and when I peered in, I could hear the soft, even sound of her breathing. She looked peaceful but I knew she was anything but. She was halfway covered so I pulled the comforter up above her shoulders. She shifted ever so slightly but didn't wake.
There was no way I was getting any sleep tonight so I pulled a random book off of her bookshelf and left the room. I got comfy on one of the couches in the living room and cracked open a battered copy of Celestine prophecy. Somewhere between reading and trying to convince myself to stay awake, I actually fell asleep.
A shrill scream forced my eyes open and after a quick glance at my surroundings and realizing where I was, I got to my feet.
"He's going.... Alex.... hurry!" Specs' voice echoed through the quiet apartment in broken sentences as I made my way to her.
She was tossing and turning in bed. Her eyes were crinkled at the edges and her hands fisted the comforter. Something between a sob and a shriek escaped from her and by then I was at her side, slipping myself under the covers with her. I gathered her in my arms and stroked her cheek with the back of my forefinger, slowly calming her down and urging her to wake up.
"Kate! Kate, wake up! Hey, wake up!" I whispered in her ear and gently shook her by her shoulders before her big brown eyes shot open, the terror still present in them.

Kate
My stomach twisted.
You know that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach moments before something bad happens? Like your body's very own way of waving a gigantic red flag telling you to get the hell out of dodge?

Romance"You were worried about me, Specs?" He smirked. "No, Tyler. I hoped that someone cut up your corpse and fed it to paranas. Obviously I was, you idiot! I'm a doctor. Worrying about people is kind of programmed into my system. It's a curse if you ask...
