Tyler

"But Chief Gr," pause, "Victoria, is Kate okay with," pause, "okay," pause, "yes, I look forward to it," pause, "bye."

Victoria Grey hung up after forcing a yes out of me. Dinner at 6 at Specs' apartment. I wasn't sure if it was her idea or just Victoria's so I was reluctant to accept the invitation but after minutes on end of persuasion I gave in. It's just dinner with my girlfriend and her mother, what's the worst that could happen?

Girlfriend.

Its been so long since I've managed to say that word or even think it without having a sleepless night filled with haunted memories.

It was 1pm and I'd just gotten out of bed after pulling the nightshift at the hospital. The dinner was only at 6 but who said that I couldn't be there earlier. I took a quick shower and raided my closet for some clothes. I settled for black skinny jeans, a khaki t-shirt, black high tops and a denim jacket. I shoved my cell into my back pocket and grabbed my keys off the rack near the fridge.

A knock on the door took me by surprise. It was Sunday and most sane people take this day as a day to relax before the start of a new week. This better be good.

I swung the door open and was met by a familiar grey eyed ginger.

"Susan," I said in a tone that clearly announced my surprise.

Susan looked different from the last time I saw her. When her mental health was taking a toll on her, she took little interest in her appearance always dressing in baggy clothes with unkempt hair and sleep deprived eyes. Now she rocked a simple angled bob cut and was dressed in blue jeans and a black T-shirt.

"Long time, Tyler," she replied.

I side stepped to allow her into the apartment. She entered looking as skeptical as ever and took her seat on the nearest couch. I sat across from her on the armrest of another.

"Where have you been? We've been looking for you for months."

"I couldn't stay there any longer," she said.

"So you ran away! Why couldn't you call?" I snarled at her. My mother had been trying for weeks to find her and now she just shows up here.

"I was there because of y'all in the first place," she fired with a look I knew all too well from her.

After the accident, Susan resented my family and I and never stopped blaming us for Steph's death- me more than my parents. If she had it her way she would've left and never looked back but out of fear of her mental health, my mother tried to help her and got her into that centre.

"We were just trying to help you."

"Like you helped Steph!" My insides churned at her tone, "I don't need your help anymore."

"Then why are you here," I snarled.

"I figured that one of y'all might've been looking for me so I came to tell you that I'm okay. I'm taking my meds and I have a monthly prescription."

"Where're you staying?"

"With a friend. He's name's Theo. He was at the centre for a while but was sent home a week before I left and he's been helping me with my... condition," she explained.

Great! 2 people, both with mental health issues, living together. That's a recipe for disaster if you ask me.

"Fine," I give in. Only time will tell how bad this could turn out but for now, looks like she's okay. "I'll let my mother know. She'll inform the centre"
