"Come on, Hay! It can't be that hard to figure out what to wear," Nic moaned as we waited in Hazel's room as she raided her closet.

"Try sneakers and track pants or something," I said, earning me a death stare from Hazel. As if she'd ever wear that.

It was Saturday and here we were waiting for Hazel to get dressed so we could head to the game. Nic and I settled for simple yet classy clothes. I dressed in a khaki coloured shorts jumper with flat ankle boots and my hair let down while Nic rocked a purple spaghetti strap tee, blue denim shorts and high tops.

"Tyler texted," I announced, "the guys are coming here in the next 30 minutes so we can all leave together."

"Tyler huh," Hazel spoke, obviously attempting to distract us from the fact that she is still undecided on what to wear. "You guys are really hitting it off," she stated, matter of factually.

It was true. Tyler and I were talking more since our coffee fiasco but hitting it off may be exaggerating things a little. He was still his occasional disgusting guy self but I've just learnt to live with it since that was out of my control.

"He is my colleague after all. I'm kind of stuck with the guy so I might as well get used to him," I replied, trying to be as discreet as possible.

"True but I could've sworn you two hated each other that first week of residency and now you guys actually seem like friends." She added.

"Well, last Friday he made it up to me for being such an ass. We grabbed some coffee and..." I didn't get to finish what I was saying before being interupted by my babbling friend.

"Woah! Grabbed some coffee! Like a date. Oh my God! You guys were on a date," she short-circuited before her jaw dropped for reasons incomprehensible to me.

"God! No! It wasn't a date," I defended, "it was just his way of apologizing and I went along because I have a soft spot for coffee, okay."

Nic and Hazel exchanged surprised glances at each other. It wasn't in a jealous way, as if there's anything to be jealous about, but more in a concerned way. Nic looked more skeptic about this than Hazel.

"Kate, listen," Nic started, "I don't want to sound like a bad friend or anything and don't get me wrong, I really like the guy but I just thought you should know that if you're looking for a relationship, it's not going to happen with Tyler Blake."

Wow. I wasn't surprised at all that that's what she'd assume so it didn't bother me. Who'd blame her? She didn't know much about me and clearly didn't know anything about my track record with relationships. It wasn't pretty to say the least. It's one of the reasons as to why, for the past 5 years, I've distanced myself from anything remotely close to relationships. Love, romance, guys. I didn't have time for all of that in my life and I sure as hell didn't plan to start with that mushy gushy stuff now.

"I appreciate the concern, Nic. I really do but a relationship, especially one with Tyler, is the furthest thing from my mind right now," I answered her honestly.

She nodded but continued with her warning, "Tyler's messed up, Kate. Yeah, he may be a doctor and a total looker and everything but he comes with a lot of drama and I don't think you'd want to be caught up in all that."

Messed up? Aside from being a completely complicated mix of super intelligent, good looking and a complete ass, I don't see how he could be anymore messed up. Luckily for me, Hazel had the answers. Sort of!

"Come on, Nic. Just because his dad's the freaking mayor and there maybe a whole lot of bullshit rumors surrounding him, doesn't mean..."

"What the hell?" I screeched a little too loud, disturbing Hazel mid rant. "His dad's the mayor?"
