Kate
Thanksgiving morning.
Okay. I got this. I can totally do this. Unless I can't.
I twisted over restlessly in my bed, unable to stay calm ever since my alarm went off at 8am. I buried my face in my pillow in an attempt to drown out the pounding headache that I felt coming on.
For weeks I held on to the hope that my mother would atleast try and attempt a family dinner but with Alex still in Dubai, there was a fat chance at that happening. For some unexplainable reason, the number of cases coming into the hospital ER had significantly increase as the holidays got nearer, hence the chiefs constant presence at the hospital.
This world hates me, I'm sure of that.
I grabbed my phone from my night stand and noted the time as 9:45am. I lazily and reluctantly got out of bed and made my way towards the bathroom. After brushing my teeth and taking a shower I wrapped myself in my warm woollen gown and slipped my feet into a pair of Uggs. I sauntered off to the kitchen and cooked up a breakfast of eggs, sausage and toast. Eating usually keeps my mind occupied for some time. My phone vibrated from it's place on the counter as I'm popping the bread into the toaster. Pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose, I check the caller ID and answer as nonchalantly as I can.
"Morning," I sang in a higher pitch than necessary.
Tyler's low chuckle tells me that he picked up on that as well. "Morning, Specs. I hope you're ready because I'm on my way to pick you up."
I choke on my black coffee, my entire body paralyzed by nerves and panic. "What!" I yell, "you told me 2pm. It's not even 11 yet and I'm not ready. I didn't take out my clothes or do my makeup or pick up the cake that I ordered. I didn't even have breakfast yet and wait, I thought I told you I'd drive there myself so why..."
His barking laughter from the other end of the phone cut my ramble short. "You know I'm messing with you right?"
"Today is not the day for that. I would've bludgeoned you to death with a frying pan if you were in front of me."
"I know," the humor in his voice still intact. "Chill out, Specs. You're meeting my parents not saying yes to a proposal...yet."
"Gee thanks, babe. As if I wasn't nervous enough," I huff. He just had to bring that up knowing that I was already on edge.
"Babe?" He laughed.
"You're enjoying this aren't you?"
"Just a little. What are you wearing?" He asks, automatically changing the topic.
"Right now, a gown. I have no clue what to wear," I confess. I have a closet stocked to capacity with clothes and yet I have no clue what would be appropriate for this type of meeting.
"How about something sexy but still appropriate. Flashy but not outrageous. Does that help?"
"Not really but thanks."
I jump up from my seat at the popping sound of the toaster. I forgot that that was on. Great! Burnt toast was exactly what I need right now. I juggle tossing the bread into the bin while holding my cell to my ear.
"You know you didn't have to order a cake and everything," Tyler says.
"I know but I wanted to. Also, the thought of having chocolate cake is slightly putting my nerves at ease."
He chuckled while I shoved a piece of sausage into my mouth. No way was I waiting for more toast.
"I'll see you later then?"

Romance"You were worried about me, Specs?" He smirked. "No, Tyler. I hoped that someone cut up your corpse and fed it to paranas. Obviously I was, you idiot! I'm a doctor. Worrying about people is kind of programmed into my system. It's a curse if you ask...
