Kate

We laid on top of the cool silk sheets in a comfortable silence. I hated arguing with him. It always felt like it drained the life out of me. Tyler's hand rested around my stomach, his fingers aimlessly drawing circles over my gown. He was quiet...too quiet.

"What's on your mind?" I asked.

He let out a light chuckle before replying, "I wouldn't know where to begin."

I turned around on my side, propping my elbows up for support and faced him. "Try me."

"I don't really think you want to hear what I'm going to say," he said, treading lightly.

"I probably don't but spill. Now!" I demanded.

"Fine. I was thinking, maybe now is a better time than ever to listen to me and get out of town for a few days." I glared at him, knowing exactly where this is going. "I don't know why Alex hasn't been answering any of my calls but I've left him a couple of texts. You need to get out of town, Specs while we deal with Theo."

Alex. It hadn't struck me until now that Alex was no where to be found at the hospital.

"I'm going to pretend you didn't say that, Ty," I answered rebelliously.

"This isn't a choice anymore, Specs. You're pregnant and..."

"And you're delusional if you think I'm going to leave you here to walk into a possible suicide mission," I interrupted.

Almost on cue a loud banging came from downstairs, followed by furious bell ringing and yelling.

"Kate!!!!" The voice shouted, sending Tyler and I sprinting up from the bed.

"Kate!? Tyler?!!" The voice screamed out again. By now I could tell who it was.

Alex.

Tyler and I rushed downstairs. Through the glass panelled door, Alex looked like a mess. Sweat beads decorated his face while his hair stood out in all directions. As soon as the doors opened and before I could utter a single syllable, I was being squashed in a giant bear hug. At one point I felt as if I would turn blue in the face if he held on any longer.

"Fuck! Are you okay?" He finally spoke, holding my face in his hands protectively. "I was on conference calls all fucking day and had my phone off. Mum tried calling me, Tyler tried but I-I I'm such an idiot. What the hell happened?! Are you..."

"Alex!" I yelled to stop him continuing his ramble. "I'm okay. Would you come inside and take a seat please?"

He nodded, his state of mind still miles away as we walked to the kitchen area while Tyler locked up after us.

"Yeah, I'm fine too. Thanks for asking," Tyler mocked from behind us, lightening up the mood.

I passed Alex a bottle of water across the counter but he didn't even touch it before continuing.

"What the hell happened today?"

He was going to have to be a little more specific.

"Well, in a quick summary, the bastard Theo blew up my car with the hopes of Kate and I being inside. A few bumps and bruises but we'll be fine. That's more than I can say for him when we find him," Tyler graciously explained.

"You got that right. No more waiting," Alex agreed.

"And there you two go again. You do know that retaliating with violence won't solve anything right? Y'all could end up in jail or worse. Theo's a psychopath who tried to blow Tyler and I to pieces, who knows what else he's capable of."
