Dimitri
I watched everyone's face drop at the sound of the gun shot while my mind was left in a dilemma. On one hand I had Hazel and her best friend in front of me and I knew she needed to get out of here and on the other, the man that's been like a brother to me my whole life was back in that house and who knows what the fuck just happened. I noted the glassy look in Hazel's eyes as I pondered back and forth between them for a split second. Alex instructed them to leave and when Hay gave me the tiniest nod of understanding, I wasted no time following Alex back into that house.
It was eerily still as I scanned the room for Tyler only to find him and that bastard both lying on the floor, one flinching here and there the other not so much.
Fuck!
I watched Alex stalk over to Theo, battered and bruised and lying semi conscious, and pull the gun out of his limp hand. Blood pooled out from underneath Tyler. He was hit. Alex, aimed the gun at Theo and fire one straight into his abdomen, purposely missing any vital organs from the way I saw it. It didn't make sense to me why he'd do that but looks like we're gonna find out sooner or later. Tyler was unresponsive and his breathing was shallow.
"Hey, man! Open your eyes, bro!" I pleaded, trying my best to bring him back to consciousness.
"Let's get them to the hospital, right now!" Alex said.
"Both of them?" I asked while picking Tyler up off the floor and placing his hand around my shoulders for support. I thought we'd just let the bastard die after everything that he did.
"Yes," he helped Theo to his feet and we all started towards the cars. "You need to call Mayor Blake," he added while placing Theo in the back seat of his car.
I shot him a nod of understanding before getting Tyler in and hoping into the drivers seat of his car. Alex was quick to pull out onto the street and I followed closely behind him. Every 5 seconds or so I checked on Tyler through the rearview mirror.
"You're gonna be okay, bro. Just hang on!" I encouraged.
In an attempt to multitask, which Hazel warned me never to do again, I got my phone and dialled Mayor Blake.
"Hey, son!" He picked up, sounding extremely cheerful. "Long time."
"Mr Blake, you need to get to Saint Grace immediately. Tyler's been..." I hesitated for a beat, "he's been hurt and I'm on my way to the hospital right now."
"What?!" I heard him call for Maria in the background. "We're on our way son!" The call ended almost as quickly as it began.
Tyler was still out of it and we we're just about halfway there, crossing every red light we came across. He needed to be taken into an OR stat so, my next call was to Hazel.
"D? Thank god! Are you guys okay?" She answered, not even letting the phone ring once.
"Did y'all reach?"
"We just got in. They're taking Kate into the ER," she informed me.
"Listen babe, I need you and Nic to prep an OR and be at the ambulance bay with 2 gurney's."
I didn't even want to imagine her face at the sound of my words.
"What the hell happened? Are you hurt?"
"Tyler and Theo were shot. We're almost there."
"Uhmm," she fumbled, "ah, okay. Yeah, okay I'm on it."
I hung up and stepped on the gas. Thank god this car was fast. As we neared the hospital, I couldn't help but fear the inevitable. My best friend may not make it and I didn't know if I'd be able to handle that. We practically grew up together and were inseparable no matter how much shit we may put each other through. A long time ago we both made a promise to each other, how unmanly of us but whatever. We promised that if anything had to happen to either of us, the other would always be there looking out for whoever we had left behind. That promise was beginning to scare the shit out of me. If anything happened to Tyler, how was I even supposed to look at his parents or Kate without guilt eating away at me, even though I know this wasn't my fault.
