Did You Ever Exist?

Note: Short and kind of angsty. I hope you enjoy it?

Toby's memory wasn't the best.

He constantly forgot things that he had just said and always mixed up past memories with imagination. He did the second thing a lot. So many times he claimed to have been a deep sea diver or a pilot in some fantasy land that he swore was real until it was proven to be fake.

Some real memories, however, seemed to get put into his imagination.

One specific set of memories baffled him. He could never, ever remember if it had really happened or not. But it was so bad that he hoped it was a bad dream and not something that actually happened to him.

In these "memories", there was a boy. This boy was pretty, and his name was John. And in the memories, Toby was in love with him, and John was in love with Toby. John had long white hair and pretty rings on his fingers and he had a pretty voice and gave the best kisses and hugs. Toby enjoyed that part of the memory. The part he didn't enjoy was the part where John left.

This is where his memory gets a little fuzzier. He didn't remember how John left, or what had happened. But he remembered feeling a deep sense of sadness, and he remembers crying over John and wishing that he would come back.

These memories may have been real, but Toby was left blissfully aware, only seeing his imagination in something so harsh.

He sometimes wondered what would have happened if John hadn't left.
