CHAPTER ONE
New Hairstyles, New Killing Games
-
The morning breeze rang throughout the funfair. Everything seemed so different than when she arrived. Akira was well aware escape would be easy - especially with the only thing keeping them all inside was a measly gate. She doubted anyone would kill on the first day, which was mostly due to the fact that no motive to kill had been presented.
Putting her HejjiPad in her armband, Akira sat down on a nearby fence and put her chin in her hands.
There's still a bunch of time in the day. As much as this situation is a bother, sitting around doing nothing won't change anything.
FREE TIME START!
"Aki!"
Akira looked up to see Ikue looking down at her with an expectant smile on her lips. She leaned down so they were face-to-face and lowered her voice to a near-whisper.
"While we're here, you should at least look as much like a queen as you can, you know?" She said with a giggle. "I promised you I'd fix that braid, so let me do it now!"
Akira nodded. Ikue's smile widened and she let out an excited squeal, hopping behind the archer and patting her head. "Do you dye your hair? I've never seen someone with a color so red, yet so brown."
"It's mahogany," Akira corrected with a grin and an eye roll. "It's my natural hair color. I mean... people here have hair that's pink, purple, green, blue, and neon yellow, so I don't think it's that unnatural..."
Ikue giggled. "Yeah, you're right. Can I just say that Banri's hair doesn't match his hat? Not trying to be rude, but he should get a hat that's white or black, not gray," she huffed. She undid the band on Akira's ponytail, allowing that hair to fall down on the side of her face. Ikue nodded in approval. "You're already looking better."
Ikue continued. She took the braid out and quickly pulled all of Akira's long hair behind her. She grabbed the bands and re-did the braid with an extra circle on the bottom - she had four little braids now instead of three. When she finished, she slung the side of the brain back over her shoulder.
"There! It looks much better now," Ikue said, rubbing her hands together. She quickly ran around and sat next to Akira, smiling hopefully. "What do you think?"
"Well, it feels a lot better," Akira commented, "I... like it. Thanks, Ikue."
"No problem! Can't have you walk around looking like that, you know?"
Akira was silent for a few seconds so Ikue could realize it herself. When the raven-haired girl did realize what she said, she slapped her hand over her mouth and whined. "Ah- I'm so sorry-"
"It's fine!" Akira replied quickly inbetween her laughing. "You said it was your tutor's fault, right?"
Ikue's response was immediate and angry. "Yeah. That stupid old snob. My parents were friends with his uncle, so he told them that the guy was in the tutoring business. Since my parents thought I was ' too good ' for public school, they hired him to teach me. He was a real jerkwad, not to mention..." She trailed off and shook her head. "...actually, nevermind that last part."
"Hm? Why?" Akira asked softly. "What did he do?"
"It's nothing," Ikue laughed, though it felt forced. "don't worry about it!"
Akira's eyebrows twitched in concern. Ikue seemed extremely nervous - her sweating and fidgety hand movements gave it away easily. Even though Akira hardly knew her, she felt a need to understand why. What kind of trauma has she endured? Akira's own life was fairly mundane and boring - she grew up in a small forest town and, in turn, hardly knew anything about the modern world. Ikue was the opposite of that - growing up rich with the newest technology.
Something about it compelled Akira to look deeper into it.
Ikue, feeling awkward and anxious, mustered out, "Well, now that the hair's done, I think I should go. See you later, Aki!"
She ran off before Akira could confront her.
