Fingers drummed on desks, pencils were fiddled with, students stole glances at the clock– everyone was waiting for the final bell to ring.
The bell that would release them for summer break.
The teachers tried to teach to the final minutes, but nobody was paying attention. Mrs. Webster didn't even try, asking them about their summer plans and letting them pack up early.
When the bell rang, everyone was up and out of their seats, rushing from their classrooms.
They gathered with their stuff outside, saying their goodbyes for the summer. Thad left with Ryan, saying a quick goodbye to everyone. Sebastian was the second to leave, as he had a plane to catch.
"You're really gonna miss him, aren't you?" Kurt asked, seeing Matt watch the car pull away.
He nodded. "I think I really am."
"Well, I'm no Sebastian, but if you need anything, I'm a phone call away."
Matt smiled, hugging him. "You're the best, you know that?"
"Hm, so I've heard," he joked, making him laugh.
"Kurt," a voice called.
Kurt looked over. "That's my cue, Finn's here. Blaine, c'mon." He took Blaine's hand, both of them heading to the car.
"Nick, what are you doing for the summer?" David asked.
"I'm staying with Jeff," he responded. "I evaded getting a foster family."
"Can I join you?" Wes mumbled.
"You'll be fine," David soothed, wrapping an arm around him.
Wes shook his head. "They probably think I'm trouble, I mean, I was hardly with them before the whole thing with Nick's family happened. The police know me by name. I still haven't explained all that to them."
"Wes, you aren't trouble, and I'm certain they'll see that once they get to know you."
"David, you don't understand how terrifying it is–"
"I don't," David interrupted calmly. "But I'm not going to let that stop me from making this as easy as possible for you. If you need anything, I'm here, okay? I don't care what time it is. My parents would love to have you over again if you need to escape."
Wes sighed. "You're the best. I should get going, they'll wonder where I am."
David kissed him. "Good luck."
"I'll need it."
Saying goodbye to the others, Wes left. Nick and Jeff's ride came soon after, leaving Matt and David.
"Will you be here next year?" David asked as they stood there.
Matt was surprised. "No. How'd you know?"
He laughed. "Well, I figured you might be a little busy and all, you know, taking care of a newborn."
"Who told you?"
"No one, I figured it out." He looked over at him. "Wait, were we not supposed to know?"
Matt shook his head. "I can't believe we were trying to figure out how to tell you and you already knew."
David chuckled. "I never said anything because you didn't bring it up, but yeah, Wes and I know. I mean, we're roommates, we were there when you had morning sickness. We realized what was happening eventually."
"True... But yeah, I'm taking a year off school to take care of her. I'll be back the year after next, and Sebastian's going to take care of her while I'm at school. I won't be staying overnight anymore, though."
"That's a good plan. Do you have a name yet?"
"Charlotte Grace."
"I like that." He smiled. "We'll be seniors together."
Matt grinned. "Yeah, we will. You, me, Blaine, Nick and Jeff... I'm sad I'll be missing the others' last year, though."
"Oh, if you think you're going to get away with not seeing us, you're sorely mistaken."
He laughed. "I'm holding you to that."
"Good."
