The phone was beside her and I saw her stare at it in some kind of horror..
"Who's calling..? " I asked
She refused to talk and looked to the ground.
I slowly walked to where the phone was but before I got to it,the call ended.
I picked up the phone and saw who called.
Eugene.
We didn't talk but we turned to look at each other at the same time, we stared at each other silently alot running in our mind.
"If he calls again " she started " Act like you don't know any thing..." she said.
"Why? " I asked.
"Just do it"
"What if he asks? "
"Tell him you've not heard from me"
"That's a lie! You know I can't l... "
Just then my phone began to ring again.
It was Eugene..
I slowly picked it and put it on speaker.
"Hello Dad! " he sounded excited
"Hello bro" I replied coldly, my eyes and Vikky's engaging in a ware of stares.
"my phone's been down since My baby left so I couldn't call her." he replied... I gave Vikky the "I told you" look but she just kept staring at me without blinking.
"Oh..! " I tried to act surprised "Haven't heard from her too but she sent me a text that she had arrived Lagos." I said gnashing my teeth.. I hated myself.
"Thank God " he replied "I'd call her later tomorrow tho" he said
"Okay, no pro bro"
"What about you? Are you in school? "he asked
Vikky shook her head to me signalling to me to say no
"Eh na na.. Went to see my uncle that's a lecturer"
"Mr Daniel right? " he asked.
"Yeah yeah.., would be coming back next two days" I added..
"Alright then" He said. "Talk later"
"Sure bro" I said and he hung up.
"I'm  so sorry I made you lie.. But something isn't right" She said
I came and sat with her on the bed.."What is it? "
" I dunno but I feel it" She said.
I took her hand in mine and it felt very warm..abnormal warmth.
"I'm sorry for being hard on you" I said knowing she was feeling stressed up already because of everything going on around her..
She didn't reply..
"Can we take a walk? " I asked..
"Where are we going? " she asked without looking at me.
"No where.. "
"why? "
"I just wanna walk with you " I said.
"I'd need more than just a jersey. " she said still not looking at me.
I nodded and went to get her one of my trousers..
She changed into the clothes while I looked at my phone.
"I'm ready" She said..
I turned and looked her in my clothes.. Looking funny and cute at the same time.
I stood up and opened the door for her as she stepped outside, I followed and locked the door.
I had no place in mind, I just wanted to clear her head and settle things between she and I.
We went to random places without talking to each other.
"let's go to Favour's garden" I said breaking the silence.
She didn't say a word just followed me till we got to the garden, students were there, some reading, some talking to themselves.
Some started staring at us.
I took out my hand from my pocket and held Vikky's and she grabbed my fingers tight..
It broke my heart.
I knew she was hurting and I was the reason.
We kept walking to the heart of the garden till we found a space free from students..
We took a position behind a tree and sat on one of the block made benches still holding hands..
We sat in silence for minutes..
I sighed,swallowed,yawned..
" I love you Vikky" I finally said.
"Don't " she replied immediately without looking at me.
"Don't? "I asked shocked, I was expecting a hug or awww or something..
"yeah don't " She said coldly.. "Don't let it look like I put you under pressure to love me"
"No no no"I went to kneel in front of her. I saw her eyes wet but she was fighting tears
"I really love you, and hence I won't push you away again" I confessed.
"I have a boyfriend " she said.
I didn't know if she was trying to joke or was being serious.
"I know?" I said slowly.
"So why would you love me? " She asked
I became speechless, okay she was paying me in my own coins.
I sat on the grass.
"Can I call my mum now with your phone? "she asked
"Sure" I said
She took my phone and flashed her mum
Her mum called back..
I could hear the old woman's voice in the back ground,she sounded scared and worried.
After almost thirty minutes,the conversation ended.
She handed me the phone "Thanks" she muttered gently.
I took the phone unhappy that she was sad and acting weird.
It was already dark..
"Can we go now?" she asked.
"Sure.. " I stood up and she did too,
She began to lead the way when I held her hand, pulled her back and pressed her to the tree and pushed for a kiss..
She struggled to free herself, she began hitting my chest but I wasn't going to let go..
She kept struggling..
"Please... " The words escaped my mouth.. As she let her tears flow as she stopped struggling..
I tried again to to kiss and she opened up..
She went deep, I went more..
I knew she wanted me to want her, to make effort and not just expect things to happen.
Minutes passed..
She pulled from the kiss..
"I love you " I said looking at her eyes..
She nodded.
"Let's go to my lodge." she said pulling my hand..
