I was standing in front of a house that used to be Vicky's, It was two weeks already today since Vicky left the place, now, it was someone else's.
I began to recall how I went from trying to reach her on phone but to no avail to crying like a baby and to finally accepting reality and Victoria had gone for good to start a new life and all I was left with was just memories that I wished I could clean off for good.
"Hey" a voice called me from behind as I jumped back to consciousness and turned around to see who this person was.
There, standing and staring straight into my face was a girl, probably younger than I, almost my height and giving me a frown which returned.
"You're standing at my entrance" The girl spat out coldly.
"oh.." I immediately moved out of the way "I'm sorry" I apologized but instead of replying she just walked pass me and towards Vicky's house or formal house.
I watched her as she walked to the front door. She must be the new owner, I thought to myself.
As I tried to turn and take my leave, she stopped in her track and made her hand as if she forgot something then turned slowly to face me.
"You're Barnabas right?" she asked
I nodded.
"Oh my God" her facial expression immediately changed from rude to excited.. "I'm so sorry for the way I spoke to you" she pleaded as she walked back to where I was standing.
"Okay?" I have never met her before and how did she know my name and why was she excited?
"I don't think I know you" I said as she came and stood right in front of me, adjusting her hand bag properly as if it was falling off.. I could tell she was nervous or over excited, but why?
"You don't know me, but you know my friend" she said smiling... "She used to live here before she traveled, Victoria"
Immediately I froze, I don't know how or what I was feeling but it felt like all the lights and engines in me came to life at once.
"Where is she?" I asked in excitement, finally someone that'd help me get to Vicky.
"I don't know too Barney" she said slowly as the excitement in her face faded away as a confusion spread across mine.
"So.....?" I asked.
"She left without telling me too" The girl said... "But she gave me something to give you and I haven't seen you since she left..."
"What?" I asked.
"it's inside, let me go get it" the girl said handing me her hand bag which I reluctantly collected. She rushed into the house.
As I stood there waiting for her to return, many thoughts rushed into my head, everything began to go in slow motion and it was as if Adele's song "When we were young" was ringing in the background...
Immediately I saw her come outside again with something in a black nylon..
"Geez! My phone is ringing" she said as she rushed to where I was and dug her hand into her bag and pulled out her phone that was ringing..
Oh!, so the Adele song I was hearing at the background wasn't imaginary..
The call stopped before she could pick it and she just tossed the phone back into the bag.
"So here" she said, handing what she brought from the house to me..
"What is this?" I asked
"Check"
I took the nylon and the content inside felt like a small book.
"Thank you" she smiled as I handed her bag back to her and gave a suspicious look.
She kept smiling at me in a very awkward manner.
I nodded my head and turned to leave.
"Won't you open it to check what it's in it?" she asked...
I hesitated a little then opened the nylon gradually and there, Victoria's diary..
I looked away from it immediately, pain beginning to rush into my heart.
My blood boiled, everything I had tried to suppress in the last two weeks and the self control I had been trying to have all shattered
Tears rushing to my eyes as I gnashed my teeth and tried to fight back the tears by blinking rapidly.
"Hey, It's okay to be sad B" she said putting her hand on my shoulder.
I turned to look at her as if I was just noticing her presence.
"Just breathe.... Breathe" she said staring into my eyes as I looked back trying to figure out myself and getting a very tiny impression that something wasn't right... "Breathe Barney"
I shifted back so that her hand fell from my shoulder.
"Alright.. I have to go now" I said as I turned and began to hurry away.
"I have read the diary tho," she said and I froze in my track.. "we can read it together again and I believe that all tho I don't have any contact to her but I know that I have some questions you'd ask that I can help you answer"
I turned back slowly to look at her in a suspicious scary long gaze.
"I'm hope" she said wrapping her hands around herself.. "Hundred level, mass Com"
I looked around then back at her, "what do you want?" I asked her.
"Just to read the book with you that's all" she said in a way that didn't sound convincing.
She saw my look and knew I wasn't buying that explanation.
"okay okay, I like you and I want us to be friends urrgh" she confessed hitting her head with her palm and turned and walked back towards the house.
I watched her going while I stood there like a statue.
She stopped as she got to the door, turned back "You're coming in ain't you?"
I didn't want to,
I had been avoiding everyone and everything ever since Vicky left me without leaving a trail.
But I needed answers, and Altho this new girl didn't have all, I was willing to hear the few she had.-----------------------------------------------------------
