(A/N: This is part of the storyline.)
The timeline of this is dated back in Evergarden No More, a day or two before he went to Gardarik.
A letter sent to Gilbert read,
'To: Major Gilbert Bougainvillea.
Thank you for your 13 years of service, for the 4 years you served in the Leiden-Gardarik war, you are hereby promoted in rank from the Major title, to Lt. Colonel.
This means we, military officials, have offered you to return to join us in the oval office as tactical reinforcements.
For the hard years you've worked, Lt. Colonel Bougainvillea, we have given you the opportunity to give a speech to our new graduating navy cadets in the Leidenshaftlich Base Hall, at 1 pm on XX-XXXX.
We hope you will be there to accept it.'
'That was given to me yesterday, today is the speech and acceptance to title.' Gilbert thought.
"And here to give a speech is then Major, now promoted Army Lt. Colonel Bougainvillea. Attention! Salute!" The commanding officer at the stage welcomed.
As Gilbert walked up the stage, he saw the faces of the newly born soldiers, though he wasn't very old, he felt wiser as he stood in front of them, and it filled him with pride. But, he knew he had to do this....
"As you were. Yesterday, I recieved a letter about my promotion from Major, to Lt. Colonel. It filled me with great pride and joy that my father's dream of becoming a Lt. Colonel has finally come true. But gives me with great sadness that I have willed to decline this title and resign from the military army." Gilbert stated.
Most of the naval commanding officers were shocked, even Dietfried.
"My reason for this is partially personal. But partly, of why I have decided on resigning is because I have seen this. These new cadets. Hard-workers, good-sprited. I believe it's your turn to shine, your turn to prove you didn't do your training to get stares and have fans. Prove that you did this and will be doing your best for the future. So I, Gilbert Bougainvillea, resign from the military army, and entrust my pride, to the hands of my fellow brotherhood. Thank you." Gilbert finished, before walking away the stage.
He bowed to the commanding officers there. "Expect a letter your way in a few days. I'll give you my paper work."
'This is for the better.'
Army Lt. Colonel Bougainvillea, signing off.
States Officer Sergeant Bougainvillea, reporting in.
