And before both Gilbert and Violet knew it, a month has passed.
It is late April, May will be coming around in the corner when a good sir named Gilbert Bougainvillea walked into his station in Leiden to report some...useful news.
The climate was just right. Wind blowing, sun rising, clouds shading. Leidenshaflich was one of the luckiest to win such wonderful atmosphere at the time of the year.
Gilbert missed the air in Leidenshaflich, the streets, the scenery, everything. It was his home. And speaking of which, he couldn't wait to go to his house again.
As he neared his home, he saw it from a distance and wasted no time to open the door.
When he opened the door, he had a nostalgic feeling, remembering when he used to come back from training to his childhood home.
But he also remembered his mother was the only one to greet him back, as well as a couple of family butlers and maids.
He sighed softly, removing his shoes and coat, hanging it on the coat rack. He quietly walked upstairs, thinking Violet still must be asleep and that Emma hasn't arrived yet.
He carefully opened the door and closed it behind him. Walking to the closet, he laid his bags to the side and removed his shirt.
Gilbert didn't notice that the bathroom lights were on. Violet stood at the frame of the door, quite surprised at Gilbert's arrival.
Without another thought, Violet smiled softly and gently hugged Gilbert.
"Welcome back." She said.
Gilbert smiled, "I'm home."
Violet let go of her light grip and took a brief look at his face. Just one look was enough to get a clear glimpse of a new scar. It is on his left cheek.
She lightly brushed it with her cold thumb. In reply, Gilbert slightly flinched.
"What's this?" Violet asked, a little concerned.
"Well, during-" Before Gilbert could finish, Violet saw something else.
It was a good 2 inches of a stab wound on the upper left side of his chest. It didn't even scar yet, the wound was still pinkish and warm.
In addition to that, she also saw that his whole right arm was wrapped, from shoulder to fingertips.
Violet raised her eyebrows, giving a questioning look towards Gilbert.
Gilbert looked at Violet's eyes and just sighed.
"Can we talk about it later? I just want to spend some time with you." Gilbert said, proposing that they'll talk about the details later. "I missed you."
Violet let a short sigh too. "Yeah, alright. I missed you too, a lot." She said, letting the matter go for now.
"Thank you. Now, can you help me dress this wound on my chest?"
Violet just nodded. Getting a medicine box from their closet. She cleaned and covered the wound as quickly and precisely as she could.
As soon as that was finished, Gilbert grabbed a fresh shirt and pants, and laid on the bed, a bit tired. He got under the covers and blew through the air.
"Hmm...it's quite chilly isn't it?" Gilbert remarked.
Violet got under the covers as well. "Yes, it is."
Gilbert smiled, looking at her. "Do you mind if we just stay in bed for a little while longer? I'm quite tired from yesterday."
"I don't mind actually, I'm still quite sleepy so I guess I'll take a nap with you." Violet replied, unconsciously snuggling closer to Gilbert.
Gilbert leaned into it. "Mmm, that'd be nice."
So even though the birds were up and chirping, this certain couple decided to sleep-in.
The first one to wake was Violet. It seemed that Gilbert was still sleeping soundly. Violet let him be and didn't wake him up, she guessed that he didn't have a good night's sleep yesterday.
For her, as she was a bit lazy to get up yet, she glanced at Gilbert's sleeping face. She saw his old scar, the one on his eye. She didn't mind it, it was part of him now, that's why it's called a scar.
She had those too, scars all over her body. As well as Gilbert, she remembers the scars on his body, that was why she instantly spotted a new cut on his chest.
It was obviously a stab wound by the way it was cut. And it looked like it was quickly retracted as well.
The cut on his cheek was still a bit pink, but it had scarred already, it means it was mostly likely a scratch.
She lightly touched his cheek, she saw a small bruise too, but it has healed.
Violet was curious, worried as well. Thinking that maybe there might be bruises on other parts of his body too, not only that, but the bandages on his arm.
She thought that maybe he had a fight in Gardarik or something, but she guess she'd have to wait patiently for what Gilbert will say.
All she thought for now was, 'What could possibly have happened in Gardarik?'
(A/N: Bonus writing because I'd like to show you my depiction of the modernized Violet Evergarden. Sorry if you don't like it.)
She just sighed, and thought something out loud that she didn't know Gilbert heard.
"You know...I never would've thought I'd be in this position, in this moment. Where you would come home and I'd welcome you back. If you had told me that I would be this happy...carrying your child....mmm..." She chuckled at the thought.
"I don't know, I don't know what would have happened...that's why I thank you so many times...because this amazing joy that I'm feeling is because of you...." Violet smiled.
"It's out of context, talking to you while you're asleep...but I love you, and I like myself better when I'm with you, so please tell me what's wrong...because sometimes I'm worried that you don't feel the same when I get these thoughts."
Violet brushed her thoughts away, "What am I saying? Hahhh....I'll make some breakfast for when you awaken." Then she stood up and walked downstairs.
(A/N: Because Violet has random thoughts too. Also because she's pregnant and has unstable emotions haha. I did my best on these chapters, it's getting harder to think about possible ways to continue this...So please bare with me and maybe help me? Haha.....)
