*two weeks later*
Kaitlyns pov

Opening day was just a week away. Everyone was gone but major leaguers and some triple a players. The roster still wasn't out yet and tensions were high. Players were on edge, and Counsell and I still only spoke unless we had to. The few times we'd speak without needing to just ended in us yelling at each other.

I was working on something for Adam when Christian walked in. He plopped down in a chair and raised his eyebrows and shook his head. I laughed.

"Yeah?"

"The roster just went up, it's crazy out there so I'll wait to look later." My heart stopped.

"Oh?"

"I assume you get your copy soon." Just as he said that Adam walked in,

"You got some interviews to get to later." And walked out. I looked down and read the list. Outfield was everyone you'd think. Same with infield. The bench wasn't shocking at all. We had a bunch of new pitchers on so I'd be spending a lot of time in the pen today.

"Holy shit." Before Christian could ask Jacob came running in.

"DID YOU SEE!" He had tears in his eyes.

"I did!"

"I have no words."

"I mean I said holy shit."

"I said holy fuck."

"Would make sense."

"Oh my god I can't," he shook his head. "I gotta go call my mom and dad and cry." I smiled,

"Go call your parents." He ran away and I let out a big sigh.

"Oh thank god."

"He made it?"

"Yeah, catcher and backup at first base."

"What about Manny then?"

"He's not on it. He's in triple a."

"Holy shit."

"Yeah it's wild."

"You hiding in here?" Counsell said to Christian walking in.

"Yeah it's nuts out there right now."

"Fair game. Just bringing the lineup in." He set the paper on my desk and walked out. There was a post it on it,

"You were right. I/we couldn't lose our best reporter and one of our best catchers at the same time, you both had to stay. Thanks Kaitlyn... ~ Couns" I smiled and taped it to my desk.

"You're happy." Yes, but I was also relieved.

"Yeah you could say that." He smiled and kissed me.

"I'll see you later."

I went and interviewed the pitchers. Everyone was crowded around Manny and then Jacob. He was so happy.

We won the game eight to five. Christian and Jacob both homered. Jacobs was a two run. Jacob threw a couple guys out from stealing too. Everyone just had a good game today. I was sitting in my office when Jacob walked in. I looked up and smiled and went back to typing. He shut the door.

"Hey how are,"

"You put your job on the line for me?" I stopped typing.

"Wh, wha,"

"I went to thank Couns and tell him what my mom said and he said if I were to thank anyone it's you. I asked why and he told me. You risked your job for me? Why?"

"You know how good you are, right? You've heard how Couns and the coaches and the guys talk about you and how the pitchers trust you, right? He wasn't using his head making the roster. I gave my two cents when he first asked me. I told him how I've watched this team, veterans and newbies since high school or college. How I know you guys better than him because I talk to you everyday. I told him how Manny's said he needs help. I've told him everything the guys have said about you. I told him some other things and then yeah when he said if he didn't put you on the roster then what would happen I told him I'd walk. So yeah I did put my job on the line for you because damnit you deserve to be in the majors, and if you still don't believe me, here." I handed him the post it Couns gave me. His eyes filled with tears and his smile grew.

"And if I didn't make it would you of,"

"I would've followed you down to San Antonio."

"Really?"

"They're looking for a reporter down there too, I could've done it."

"Now we can be up here together."

"Hell yeah we can."

"Well, thank you Kaitlyn."

"You've been looking out for me it's the least I could do. Besides it's nice having someone closer to my age around here to goof off with."

"Hell yeah it is. Well, I'll see you later tonight. Thank you again."

"Always man."

We went home and celebrated.
