*six weeks later*
Christians povWe've been crying and hugging all day. We knew this was coming, but it came sooner than we thought it would. She left today to go back to LA. Cody was coming to pick her up soon.
I stood at the sink, sniffling, as I did the dishes. Okay, I washed a plate, that was already washed, and I watched it dry in the drainer. I was just trying to find things to take my mind off the fact she'd be gone any minute. I heard her suitcase roll down the hall and bit my lip as I held back tears. She wrapped her arms around me and I turned and held her just as she started sobbing. Of course then I did too.
"I don't wanna go." She choked out.
"I know baby." I whispered.
There was a knock and we knew this was it. I took her hand and she leaned on my arm. We walked over and I unlocked it.
"Hey Cody."
"Hey man. There's no rush at all just take your time."
Kaitlyn let out a sob and my heart broke. He went and sat on the couch. I wrapped my arms back around her and set my head in the crook of her neck. I was holding it together the best I could, but it wasn't working. I slowly started crying harder.
"DAMNIT GUYS I'M GONNA START CRYING." Cody said as we both forced a laugh. I wiped her tears and held her face and looked her in the eyes.
"I love you. I don't care what time of day it is if you need me you call me. I don't care if I'm getting my wrist taped or what I'm answering it. This is gonna work, I promise. We got this. Okay Mayer?"
"Yeah, we do. I love you."
"I love you too." She stood on her tiptoes and kissed me. She was right in my arms and I already missed holding her.
"I wrote the letter for a reason because I won't be able to get two words out without breaking down so, just read that when I'm gone."
"Okay baby."
She just looked at me. I was gonna miss those eyes. She looked to Cody, and we all knew. He stood and grabbed her suit case. We hugged, one last time.
"I love you koala."
"I love you tree." She let go and they left.
The second I closed that door I sobbed. I somehow made my way to our, my room. I opened the box and took out the letter.
"Christian," Even her handwriting was beautiful. "Obviously I just left to go back to LA. I'm going to assume this wasn't easy for either of us, and I know right now I'm probably sobbing in Cody's arms instead of yours and you're probably just sitting there sobbing. Well, please look to the bed where you will see my gigantic oversized UCLA hoodie I got years ago. It was the only size they had, so I know it'll fit you. And yes, it smells like me." I turned around and there was the hoodie. I grabbed it and held it, it did smell like her. "Now you're probably crying into the hoodie, that's okay. I know neither of us probably expected this considering how we hated each other, even when we loved each other. But damn I'm so happy we figured things out. I really can't see a life without you in it. I know this is going to be beyond hard, and there's going to be a lot of paths we have to cross, but we got this. We're a team now and we win games together. I miss you already. I know you do too. I'll call you as soon as we land. I hate being away from you and it's been minutes. This is gonna be a long six months. I already miss stealing your hoodies and all your clothes. I love you, so incredibly much. I'll see you soon babe, I promise. I love you. ~ Kaitlyn"
I took out my phone and texted her.
Me: I love you. We're gonna win this damn championship together.
